365 Things To Do In Palos Verdes – The 2010 Holiday Homes Tour

For the last 54 years the Neighborhood Church has been presenting the Yule Parlor Parade. This year it will be held on Friday & Saturday, December 3rd & 4th.  The Home Tour  itself is from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the Tea and Boutique is held in the Fellowship Hall from12 noon to 4:00 p.m. (Tea- Music-Bake & Yule Shops).

Each year a selection of beautiful home are chosen and decorated for Christmas in an unique manner.  This year the three homes are all located between Hawthorne Blvd., and the church.  They are all truly unique in style and represent The Family Christmas, the Feng Shui, and the Open House for Christmas.  The Neighborhood Church’s Yule Parlor Parade has been a large part of the success of the Women’s Fellowship to give to South Bay Charities.

At the Christmas Tea, you will be able to sit and listen to music while enjoying tea, sandwiches and cookies which will put you in the Christmas spirit.   The patio is prepared for outdoor seating if weather permits, and you can visit the boutiques which are steps away with different vintage items that have been created by church members.  There is even a Bake Shop with homemade goodies.

One of the first buildings on the tour is, of course, the Neighborhood Church.  Tours are given each half hour, where you can walk through this beautiful historic building and hear about its history. Then off you go to see the Christmas Open House which is a traditional Spanish colonial home (sometimes called the “Santa Barbara House”), with its tile roof, white stucco, and typical soft blue exterior window frames.  This 4,000 square foot home was made for entertaining.  Next, you will see a modern house originally built in 1968 and remodeled 10 years ago with careful attention to the principles of Feng Shui.  With no perpendicular walls you will  feel the blended Chinese/American culture throughout. Next, off to A Family Christmas Home – this one story ocean view home has the family treasures from grandparents, and great grandparents, a 102-year old doll house with some original furniture and even a doll’s bed large enough for a baby.  Such a great way to spend a day.

Ticket prices start at $30 if you order before December 2nd, then the price goes to $35.  They can be purchassed directly from the church at 415 Paseo del Mar, Palos Verdes Estates, or you can order by phone (310) 378-9353.  A map with addresses of homes will be included on all tickets.  You can only wear flat shoes – no high heels.  They request no cell phones/pictures on tour properties. Children under 12 will not be admitted.
