Family Picnic Day – Sunday, October 12, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  This is a great time to observe the Fall transition in the garden.  With the shortening of daylight hours and the cooling nighttime temperatures, the deciduous trees will start to shed their leaves and and other trees will begin turning beautiful shades of  browns, reds and yellows.  Bring a picnic and let the family experience some time outdoors enjoying the scenery.

Also on Sunday, October 12, 2014, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., there will be a Sculpting on Tile Workshop for the entire family to enjoy.  You will make a simple sculpture with your children.  First timers are welcome, and you will be creating low-relief sculpture projects with air dry clay on ceramic tiles.  The theme can be garden related or any of your child’s favorite subjects.  This is an easy to follow process and is a great way to develop children’s eye hand coordination.  The cost is $25 for members/$35 for non members.  There is also a $10 material fee per project.

The 22nd Annual Model Train Show – Saturday, October 25, 2014, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  This annual Model Train Show is sponsored by the Los Angeles Division of the National Model Railroad Association.  The finest modular club will be represented and “How To” clinics will be held on various railroad subjects throughout the day.  Bring your own model cars and locomotives if you need assistance with them.  Track will be set up in the hall and all ages are encourage to join in. Admission is free.

The Garden hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the garden is open 364 days a year.  Admission is $9 Adults/$6 Seniors and Students with ID/ $4 Children 5-12 and Children under 12 are free.  South Coast Botanic Garden is located at 26300 Crenshaw Boulevard, Palos Verdes Peninsula.  For more information go to www.southcoastbotanicgarden.org, or call (310) 544-1948.
