Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Hikes & Trails In February

In February, there are several outdoor activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy through The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy – from nature walks with naturalists, bird walks, nocturnal full moon walk to volunteer opportunities which are listed below.

Special Events: 

The guided nature walk by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy to McBride Tail, will take place on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at 9:00 a.m.  Walk along the City of Rancho Palos Verdes’ first trail and the site of the Conservancy’s very first nature walk 23 years ago.  This is an easy walk.  Meet at the end of Ocean Terrace Drive in Rancho Palos Verdes.  Drive south on Highridge Road, cross Crest Road, then turn right on Ocean Terrace Drive and park at the end of the street.  This is free and open to the public.  For more information call (310) 541-7613 x 201, or visit the website at www.pvplc.org.

Meet the authors of Wildflowers On The Palos Verdes Peninsula at White Point Nature Education Center on Saturday, February 28th, 2015, at 11:00 a.m.  Join Yvetta Williams and Ann Dalkey to learn more about the book.  White Point Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar,  San Pedro, CA.  RSVP to info@pvplc.org.

Monthly Activities:

The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk will take place at George F Canyon on Sunday, February 1, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.  Binoculars will be provided and this is a slow easy walk.  This walk is free and open to the public.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information call (310) 547-0862.

Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Friday, February 6, 2015.  Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time.  Children must be 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person.

First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on February 7, 2015, at 9:00 a.m.  First Saturday Walk takes place at the Canyon with a descriptive talk/walk led by a naturalist.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.

The Family Garden Exploration with LA City Rangers will take place on February 14, 2015, at the White Point Nature Preserve from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Your children will enjoy spending time with the LA City Rangers at the White Point Nature Preserve listening to nature themed children’s stories for young people of all ages.  This month’s theme is Love on the Preserve.  This is a free family hike guided by LA City Rangers through the beautiful 102 acre White Point Nature Preserve.  The Preserve is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.  Call (310) 541-7613 to sign up.

Birding with Wild Birds at George F Canyon will take place on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.  Parking is available at the Center which is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information call (310) 547-0862.

Nature Walk with LA City Rangers at White Point Nature Preserve, will take place on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 10:00 a.m.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Native Plant Sale will take place on Saturday, February 28, 2015, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the White Point Nature Education Center.  The Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.  For more information visit www.pvplc.org.

Volunteer Opportunities: 

Outdoor Volunteer Day at the Native Plant Nursery, will take place on February 7, 2015, from 9:00 to 12 noon.  Nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects.  Must reserve by February 4.  Email info@pvplc.org to RSVP.

Additionally, Outdoor Volunteer Days are also available at the Native Plant Nursery now from Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m.  Volunteers are need to nurture seedlings and shrubs for habitat restoration projects.  You must RSVP 48 hours in advance.  Email: info@pvplc.org.

Trail Crew Introductory Class, Saturday, February 14, 2015, from 9:00 to 12 noon.  Learn the techniques and skills that the Trail Crew uses to keep the Palos Verdes trails enjoyable for all.  This Intro Class covers trail maintenance basics and is a mandatory first step to joining the Trail Crew.  Must be 18 and older.  Contact (310) 541-7613 or go to info@pvplc.org to sign up and learn more.  You will be meeting at 916 Silver Spur Road, Suite 104 in Rolling Hills Estates.

Outdoor Volunteer Day at Agua Amarga Reserve will take place on February 21, 2015, from 9:00 to 1:00 p.m.  Help restore this unique canyon habitat.  Call (310) 541-7613 to sign up.

Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on February 28, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.  You will plant shrubs and remove weeds to beautify the native plant garden and habitat.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.  Call (310) 541-7613 to sign up.
