South Coast Botanic Garden December Events

The South Coast Botanic Garden has a full calendar for December.  Wednesday, December 2, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon the New Holiday Floral Event Styling class will take place.  This class is an exclusive behind the scenes look into event styling where students will be hands on to set up a winter themed holiday display.  During this class, students will learn about techniques for making garlands and large bows to accompany different types of home and commercial holiday decoration.  The students will also receive tips and tricks on current holiday decorating trends.  The materials are provided in the fees for the class.  The cost of this class is $25 members/$35 non-members.

Movie Night at the Garden will take place on Friday, December 5, 2015, with “The Lego Movie.”  The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and children can participate in making lego-like cookies which they can enjoy with popcorn later during the movie from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  The ticket price of $5 includes the cookies and popcorn; registration is required – call (310) 544-1948.

The New Advanced Tai Chi in the Garden (long form) will start on December 5, 2015, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and will continue on December 12th, 19th & 26th.  The class will take place on the Koi Pond Patio where you can enjoy the beauty of the gardens around you.  The cost to participate in the class is $10 member/$12 non-member.

On Sunday, December 6, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., a Holiday Concert will be held at the Frances Young Hall.  You will enjoy the 60-piece Palos Verdes Symphonic Band which will feature holiday classics to get you in the holiday mood.  The band, under the direction of David Stanton, consists of local musicians who bring the best of concert band music.  The concert theme is a Count Basie Holiday Celebration and the band will donate a musical instrument to a deserving young musician from the Count Basie Young Artists Line through the Rheuben Allen Educational Foundation.  Concert admission is $10 members/$12 non-members.
