During the month of March 2016, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering outdoor activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy including bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk and volunteer opportunities which are listed below.

Special Events: 

Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place at Linden H. Chandler, on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  You will experience this impressively restored 28 acre nature preserve, which is offering a new home for the rare Palos Verdes blue butterfly.  You will also be able to learn about the fascinating geology of the area.   This is considered a moderate walk.  To park for this event go from Rolling Hills Road, turn onto Empty Saddle Road and park in the lot at Empty Saddle Club, 39 Empty Saddle Road, Rolling Hills Estates.  This walk is free and open to the public.  For more information, call (310) 541-7613 x 201 or visit the website at www.pvplc.org.

Climate Change Presentation: After the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, will take place on Tuesday, March 15, 2015, at 6:00 p.m.  This presentation will help you learn more about the issues, and their potential consequences, from a panel of speakers including Marymount Professor and Palos Verdes Land Conservancy Board Member Dr. Allen Franz, and Johnathan Parfrey, Executive Director of Climate Resolve.  Space is limited; to attend this presentation, you must RSVP at www.pvplc.org/activities/ClimateChange.asp.

Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy 4th Saturday Workshop: Drought, Cactus Wren and Citizen Science, will take place on Saturday, March 26, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the White Point Nature Education Center located at 1600 W. Paseo Del Mar in San Pedro.  In this workshop, you will learn more about the cactus wren and local citizen science projects from volunteer Evi Meyer.  Please RSVP at www.pvplc.org.

Monthly Activities:

First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on March 5, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. with a guided walk through the canyon.  All ages are welcome.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information, call (310) 547-0862.

The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk will take place at George F Canyon on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at 8:30 a.m.  Binoculars will be provided and this is a slow easy walk.  This walk is free and open to the public.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information, call (310) 547-0862.

Family Ranger Day at White Point Nature Preserve, will take place on Saturday, March 12, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to  11:00 a.m.  Your family will enjoy spending time with the LA City Rangers and their mobile nature exhibit.  People of all ages can participate in wildlife demonstrations and explore the surrounding native plant demonstration garden with the Ranger.  This is a free family hike guided by LA City Rangers through the beautiful 102 acre White Point Nature Preserve.  Meet at the information kiosk between the parking lot and Nature Center.  The Preserve is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.  For more information, visit www.pvplc.org or call (310) 541-7613.

Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at 8:30 a.m.  Explore the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the Preserve.  The program is free and open to the public.  All ages are welcome.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.  Call (310) 541-7613 to sign up.

Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Sunday, March 20, 2016.  Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time.  Children must be at least 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person.

Nature Walk with the LA City Rangers at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, Marcy 26, 2016, at 10:00 a.m.  You can enjoy a family oriented walk led by the Los Angeles City Rangers.  No reservations are required.  White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.

Volunteer Opportunities: 

Outdoor Volunteer Days during the month of March will take place at the Native Plant Nursery on Monday through Friday, at 9:00 a.m.  Nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects.  Must RSVP at least 48 hours prior to the date you wish to volunteer.  Email info@pvplc.org to RSVP.

Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, March 12, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  You will plant shrubs and remove weeds to beautify the native plant garden and habitat.  Please sign up at http://pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering a new volunteer opportunity at the Chandler Preserve in Rolling Hills Estates.   You will help keep an Extra Eye on the Preserves for KEEPERS Environmental Review and Stewardship.  Hike a designated section of  Preserve each month providing information to help them respond quickly to needs on the preserve.  For more information contact the Volunteer Program Manager, Brittany Goldsmith at (310) 541-7613 x 215, or email bgoldsmith@pvplc.org.
