Palos Verdes Library District Children Summer Reading Program

Palos Verdes Library District Children Summer Reading Program

Here is another fun activity for your children during the Summer.  Palos Verdes Library District is offering reading activities for children as young as 6 months through grade twelve.

This year, “Read For The Win” program at the library will help kids to teens become better summer readers by keeping track of how much they are reading.  Go to PVSummerReaders.org where you will be able to keep track of your children’s reading to help them earn cool prizes and online awards while they are enjoying stories. The registration for the program begins on June 6, 2016, either online or you can sign up at the Library.

The program for babies and preschoolers will consist of them reading or listening to 50 books which will help them win a free board book.  Children going into Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade will keep track of the number of minutes they read or listen to books and will earn achievement patches, like scouts earn badges. Teens in grades 6-12 will earn Amazon gift cards which will enable them to buy their favorite books.  They can pick up their prizes from June 13 through August 21, 2016.

There is also another component to the program which is called Riddle of the Week.  Children will go to the library to solve a riddle using a secret code and win a small prize.  This is designed for preschoolers and older children to have fun while they are improving their reading skills.  This program starts on June 20, 2016.

Summer is a great time for your children to maintain and improve their reading skills over the summer months, while they relax and find topics that they love.  Each branch of the Palos Verdes Library District will have exciting weekly events in June, July and August.  Some of these activities include jugglers, magic, balloon fun and crafts. The reading program will start on June 6 and end on August 21, 2016.  Weekly activities start on June 14 and end on August 2, 2016.  The Riddle of the Week starts on June 20 and ends on August 14, 2016.
