During the month of September 2016, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering outdoor hikes/activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy including bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk and volunteer opportunities which are listed below.

Special Events: 

Palos Verdes Land Conservancy Celebrates National Public Lands Day on Saturday, September 24, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This national volunteer day will take place at White Point Nature Preserve where you can help beautify the nature demonstration garden, enjoy a Guided Ranger walk, a composting workshop and native plant sale.  Coffee will be provided from Starbucks and lunch will be served all courtesy of Toyota.  Please RSVP at http://pvplc.volunteerhub.com.  White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.

Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place at Alta Vicente Reserve on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 9:00 a.m.  You will follow North Spur Trail to visit a beautiful restoration area for native cactus wren and California gnatcatcher and listen for their distinct calls.  You will also visit the new recognition site for Golden Poppy Heritage Circle Members.  This is considered a strenuous walk.  Park at RPV City Hall, 30940 Hawthorne Blvd, Rancho Palos Verdes.  This is free and open to the public.  For more information contact (310) 541-7613 ext 201, or sign up at www.pvplc.org/events/NatureWalkRSVP.asp.

Team Leader Training Workshop will be held at White Point Nature education center on Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Team Leaders help to provide support and oversight during Outdoor Volunteer Days.  Ages 16 and up can sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

Water Conservation in Your Garden Workshop will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the White Point Nature Education Center.  You will discover drought friendly watering methods with Cris Sarabia, Stewardship Manager.  The event is free and open to the public.  Following the workshop from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. will be the Native Plant Sale.  The White Point Native Education Center is located at 1600 W. Monthly Activities:

The First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at 9:00 a.m.  Bring your family and join a naturalist guide to discover habitat, wildlife and more on an easy hike up the canyon with amazing views of the city.  This is free and open to the public.  All ages are welcome.  For more information call (310) 547-0862 or RSVP at www.pvplc.org, Events & Activities.

The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk at George F Canyon will take place on Sunday, September 4, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. Binoculars will be provided and this is considered an easy walk and is free and open to the public.  For more information contact (310) 437-0862 or RSVP at www.pvplc.org, Events & Activities.

Family Day at White Point Nature Preserve, will take place on Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Your family will enjoy wildlife demonstrations and exploring the surrounding native plant demonstration garden with one of the Naturalists.  White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Friday, September 16, 2016.  Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time.  Children must be at least 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person.

Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at 8:30 a.m.  Observe the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the Preserve.  Binoculars will be supplied for beginners.  The program is free and open to the public.  All ages are welcome.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.  RSVP at www.pvplc.org, Events & Activities.

Guided Nature Walk at the White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, September 24, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  You can visit the White Point Nature Preserve and attend a Naturalist-guided hike.  While hiking you can enjoy coastal views and learn more about the plants, animals, restoration area, etc.  White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Volunteer Opportunities:

Outdoor Volunteer Days during the month of September will take place at the Native Plant Nursery on Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m.  You will nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects.  You must RSVP at least 48 hours prior to the date you wish to volunteer.  Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

Outdoor Volunteer Day at Portuguese Bend Reserve, on Saturday, September 3, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Help restore this beautiful habitat while enjoying a beautiful view.  Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
