Palos Verdes Peninsula Seniors Lectures & Coffee & Cars February 2017

The Peninsula Seniors Lecture Series February 2017 is a great opportunity for Palos Verdes homes owners to hear interesting speakers.  These Lectures take place at Hesse Park located at 29301 Hawthorne Boulevard, Rancho Palos Verdes, in the Fireside Room on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.

February 1, 2017 – Jean Alden and the Reader’s Theater Repertory of San Pedro, are back by popular demand and will give a riveting 90 minute performance of “Love Letters.”

February 8, 2017 – Rick Thompson will be sharing his stunning album of Christmas pictures that were taken from both the USA and his recent trip to the Christmas Markets in Germany.  This will include the beauty of Christmas beginning in the yards of Torrance, California, then to a unique Christmas Doll exhibit in Colorado Springs.  This will be a gorgeous visual feast of Christmas decor from around the world without leaving the comfort of your chair.

February 15, 2017 – The Palos Verdes AAUW Reader’s Theater will be presenting “An Interview with Queen Victoria” written by Jacky Mason to simulate a press conference featuring Cecilia Rodgers as the long-reigning British Monarch, Queen Victoria.  Her answers to reporters’ engaging questions are candid, informative and at time most amazing.  This is an interesting look into the life of Queen Victoria, who ruled during much of the 19th century and for whom that era is named.

February 22, 2017 – Dr. William Lama will be presenting “Thank Heaven for Global Warming.”  Is Global Warming really settled science, do 97% of scientists agree or consider it fake news?  Since they now call it climate change (the warming stopped in 1998), are climate models useless, or do we just not know what it will be like in 2030.  William will be including internet, education, science, energy and prosperity in his discussion.  He earned his PhD in physics form the University of Rochester and taught physics in college for 20 years.

COFFEE & CARS

On Saturday, February 4, 2017, the Peninsula Seniors will sponsor Coffee & Cars at the Peninsula Shopping Center (Silver Spur Road and Hawthorne Boulevard in Rolling Hills Estates).  A group of car enthusiasts will bring their Hot Rod, Custom, Muscle Car, Sports Car, Antique, and other special interest vehicles, to the Peninsula Shopping Center parking lot where you can admire the cars, meet the owners and ask them questions.

Coffee & Cars is held the first Saturday of every month 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the parking area near Starbuck’s in the Peninsula Shopping Center.  Each month, a different type of car is featured.
