Palos Verdes Garden Concerts Welcome The Firebird Quintet Trio!
On Sunday, August 27, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., St Luke’s Presbyterian Church will be presenting “The Firebird Quintet.” This is a fun event where you can come early and enjoy our gorgeous weather while picnicking on the lawn, and then enjoy a Free Garden Concert.
The Firebird Quintet (Tom Barnes, Lynn McConnell, Anatoly Mamalyga, Iryna Oriova, Peter Rothe & Anna Belaya) are musically superb, according to the Los Angeles Times. They perform on traditional Russian instruments: the domra, a string instrument with a thin, fretted neck and round body first appearing in written records at the end of the 15th century; the balalaika, a triangular bodied Russian instrument well know to Western audiences from the film Doctor Zhivago; and the bayan a member of the accordion family popular in Russia and Ukraine. Firebirds repertoire ranges from traditional Russian, Ukrainian, and Eastern European songs to well known classics and original compositions.
Come and listen to this great musical trio, have a picnic and later enjoy dessert and coffee hosted by St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church.
