Palos Verdes Hikes & Trails Events April 2018

During the month of April 2018, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering outdoor hikes/activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy including bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk and volunteer opportunities which are listed below.

Special Events: 

Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Land Conservancy at Forrestal Reserve will take place on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 9:00 a.m.  You will enjoy some of the best wildflower viewing and dramatic geological formations on the cliffs of this former basalt quarry.  Seeing the faults, folds and indigenous intrusions visible in the sedimentary bedding is exciting.  This is considered a moderate to strenuous walk and is free and open to the public.  Park along Forrestal Drive or park in the lot at Ladera Linda Community Center.  Meet the group near the gate. Join the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy for an Earth Day Composting Presentation by expert Denise Epport of Triformis Corp. “Composting Your Way to a Greener Tomorrow” is free and will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the White Point Nature Preserve located at 1600 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.  RSVP at www.pvplc.org,Events & Activities.

Full moon Yoga at Terranea Resort which benefits the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at 7:00 p.m.  At this event you will enjoy yoga for all levels with Terranea’s amazing yoga instructor under a bright full moon.  Gather at Terranea Resort’s Ocean Lawn overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  Bring your own mat, and a $20 donation is appreciated to support the PVP Land Conservancy in honor of Earth Month.

Monthly Activities

The First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at 9:00 a.m.  Bring the children for an easy, but beautiful walk in the canyon.  The naturalist guide will introduce your children to the wonders of the native habitat that supports many forms of wildlife here on the Peninsula.  Beautiful vistas of the city await those that wish to trek a wee bit furthur.  This is free and open to the public.  All ages are welcome.  For more information call (310) 547-0862 or RSVP at www.pvplc.org, Events & Activities. 

Family Science & Storytime will take place at George F Canyon on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at 10:00 a.m.  You can gather up the kids and join the nature center for a hands on science experience about the elusive gray fox of Palos Verdes.  You can see rare footage of our local gray foxes in their native PV habitat, examine taxidermy specimens and pelts, and learn about how this beautiful animal thrives in our canyons and hills.  Storytime with informational books and fox relatied fiction immediately following.  This is a free event.  For more information call (310) 547-0862 or RSVP at www.pvplc.org, Events & Activities. 

Stories, Songs And More For All at White Point Nature Education Center will take place on Saturday, April 14, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. You will be able to share the joy of storytelling with your children and introduce them to the beauty of the natural surroundings.  Your family will enjoy spending time with retired Children’s Librarian Carla Sedlacek for stories and activities featuring nature themes, exciting props and songs. This event is free.  White Point Education Center is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.  RSVP at www.pvplc.org, Events & Activities.

Birding with Wild Birds Unlimited at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at 8:30 a.m.  Observe the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the Preserve.  Binoculars will be supplied for beginners.  The program is free and open to the public.  All ages are welcome.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.  RSVP at  www.pvplc.org,Events & Activities.

Guided Nature Walk at the White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at 9:00 a.m.  You will visit the Preserve and attend a Naturalist-guided hike.  Enjoy coastal views and learn more about the plants, animals, restoration area and more.  The White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Native Plant Sale at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, April 28, 2018, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m.  Plants are sold on a first come, first serve basis.  White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Volunteer Opportunities:

Outdoor Volunteer Days at Native Plant Nursery will take place on Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m.  You will nurture seedlings to grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects.  Must RSVP at least 48 hours in advance.  Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

Outdoor Volunteer Days at Alta Vicente Reserve will take place on Saturday  April 7, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Help restore this unique canyon habitat home to many threatened and endangered wildlife species.  Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteer.com.

Outdoor Volunteer Day at Portuguese Bend Reserve will take place on Saturday, April 14, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. till 12:00noon.  You can help restore important wildlife habitat while looking out at a beautiful view.  Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteer.com.

Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  You will help beautify the native demonstration garden and surrounding habitat.  Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
