Join The 10th Annual “Conquer the Bridge” Vincent Thomas Bridge Race!

Palos Verdes Peninsula residents have a great opportunity to run/walk on the Vincent Thomas Bridge this coming Labor Day for a 5.3 mile celebration.  This race is part of the 2018 L.A. Fleet Week events at the Port of Los Angeles.  The race attracts thousands of runners every year who just want to be on foot atop of this iconic 1963 green suspension bridge.  Participants can sign up on site before the race for $65 (cash only), but are encouraged to register in advance and pay just $55 at Road Runner Sports.  Road Runner Sports, located at 25359 Crenshaw Blvd, Torrance, will host a three day pre-race pickup from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. today Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday,  and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.  You can reach the store by calling 310-326-8530 ext 2 for more race information.

As there is a limited amount of time to keep the bridge open for foot traffic, the race starts promptly at 7:00 a.m., and must be wrapped by 9:00 a.m.  The bridge then reopens at 10:00 a.m. for traffic.  Even walking the course is said to be challenging, and there is water and first aid stations at many locations at the race venue.

They are hoping that in the future they will be able to do a bridge-to-bridge run which would include Long Beach’s new harbor bridge expected to be finished in 2020.  Proceeds go to support the LA Fleet Week Foundation and The Beacon House Association of San Pedro.
