Palos Verdes Peninsula Seniors Lectures & Coffee & Cars November 2018

Palos Verdes Peninsula Seniors Lectures & Coffee & Cars November 2018

The Peninsula Seniors Lecture Series November 2018 is a great opportunity for Palos Verdes homes owners to hear interesting speakers.  These lectures take place at Hesse Park located at 29301 Hawthorne Boulevard, Rancho Palos Verdes, in the Fireside Room on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.

November 7, 2018 – Scott Willoughby of Northrop will be speaking about the James Webb Space Telescope, which is a large infrared –  optimized space telescope to replace the Hubble Telescope.  Webb will find the first galaxies that formed in the early universe, and connect the big bang theory with our own Milky Way Galaxy.  Webb’s instruments are designed to work primarily in the infrared range of electromagnetic spectrum with some capability in the visible range.  This should be interesting information on this critical and strategic program.

November 14, 2018 – Jim Shneer will be returning to present Two Survivors: Mikasa and Aurora.  Our own local historian will be presenting a lecture on Naval History.  Two warships, one Japanese and one Russian, which were launched in the early 1900s fought on opposing sides in the 1905 Battle of Tsushima, which is one of the greatest and most one-sided sea battles in history.  This will be an interesting story.

November 21, 2018, Will have no program since we will all be getting ready for Thanksgiving.

November 28, 2018 – Mary Mallory will be presenting “Living with Grace.”  Poised, cultured and unforgettable, Grace Kelley had an aura of a princess even before she was crowned.  Having established her polished flair and serenity as a fashion icon, actor and humanitarian, this wonderful woman has been an inspiration for many and her legacy enlightens a new generation of fans.  Motion picture historian, Mary Mallory, is the author of four books, and also serves on the Board of Hollywood Heritage.
