Palos Verdes Tennis Club 2019 Junior Program

Palos Verdes Tennis Club 2019 Junior Program

Palos Verdes homes owners can enroll their children in the Palos Verdes Tennis Club’s Junior Program which is open for workouts year round.  The program not only introduces children from 4 to 17 years of age to the game of tennis, but has many different levels of play for children of all ages.  It is available for members and non members.  This fun and challenging program has six USPTA certified tennis professionals with years of experience training junior players.  The junior program is designed to expose juniors to the whole spectrum of tennis: strokes, footwork, endurance and strategy and is intended to motivate children to play and gain as much experience as possible.  The Club runs small groups on a 6/1 student to pro ratio, to maximize quality.  They also have team tennis on the weekends.

The Junior Clubhouse is located next to Court #1, and is “home base” for the Junior Program.  All juniors are welcome to enjoy its use while waiting for lessons, clinics, matches, workouts, or just to visit with friends.  It is equipped with a TV, DVD, VCR and assorted board games, and has restroom facilities.

Hot Shots (ages 4-7) This program is an introduction to tennis using colorful teaching aids.  The use of foam balls and mini nets help to maximize the level progression of the students.  These classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 pm.
Level 1  (ages 7-12) This class is for both new/beginner and advanced/beginner level players.  They will focus on fundamental skills, strokes and ball control.  These classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 pm.  The classes are comprised of both feeding and live ball drills using orange “learning”  balls, which travel 40% slower than regular balls, to build confidence through hitting consistency.
Level 2 (ages 7-12) This class is for intermediate level players who are interested into moving into pre-competition.  They will do drills and games to learn singles and doubles strategy.  Green dot balls, 25% slower, are used at this level.  These classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  The coaches are John Corrizosa and Kristen Flagler.
Level 3/ Novices  (ages 10-16)   This class is for the player seeking improvement on strategy for singles and doubles play.  There will be lots of balls hit in this class with coaches giving personal feedback.  You must have a basic knowledge of tennis, and be able to rally at least 20 balls consistently.  These classes meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Level 4/Satellite (ages 12 and up) This class is for those serious players who have the experience and desire to play at the high school level or better.  This will be a conditioning class with emphasis on competitive play.  These classes meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
