Lecture Series

Wednesday, April 10, 2019, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Ironman Craig Blue returns to present the latest trends in Staying Healthy.

Wednesday, April 17, 2019, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., local resident Robin Aube who is the Manager of Advancement at AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles will speak.  She grew up in San Pedro but has been a Palos Verdes resident for 25 years.  As a member of the innovative ocean and marine science campus, Robin manages community outreach, educational programming and the UrgentSea annual campaign along with donor relations.  AltaSea is a public-private venture redeveloping 35 acres of dockland at the Port of Los Angeles and is building a world-class campus focused on ocean sustainability, with a program model designed to generate ocean-based solutions to global sustainability issues through collaboration among businesses, researchers, explorers, conservationists and educators.  They have already attracted leaders in sustainable aquaculture, undersea robotics, ocean exploration and marine science and strive to generate solutions to the most critical global sustainability issues today: food, energy, and climate security.

Wednesday, April 24, 2019, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., “The Future of Flight” takes a deeper look into the global pilot shortage, exploring why people aren’t pursuing careers in aviation and offering new and exciting solutions.  This presentation will leave you with a new sense as to where the aviation industry needs to go to keep pilots in the cockpit.  Guest speaker and daughter of world-famous pilot Dick Rutan, Jill Rutan Hoffman, is an entrepreneur with a laser focus on aviation.  As the founder of Path 2 Flight, she is revolutionizing flight training to provide better access to general aviation.

These lectures will take place at Hesse Park located at 29301 Hawthorne Blvd., Rancho Palos Verdes, in the Fireside Room.
