Terranea Resort Is Honored With 2019 SoCal Environmental Excellence Development (SEED) Award!

Terrenea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes

Palos Verdes residents are honored to be able to share in the excitement that our own Terranea Resort is celebrating.  On October 10, 2019, the 12th annual South Bay Environmental Excellence Development Ceremony took place at the Flight Path Museum in Los Angeles.  This special award ceremony,  was established by SEED to present individuals, groups, and businesses that have exhibited excellence in helping to improve environmental sustainability and quality of life in the South Bay.  SEED is a global partnership for action on sustainable development and the green economy that was founded by the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) at the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg. SEED is based on the understanding that the promotion of social and environmental enterprises is pivotal to a world of flourishing communities where entrepreneurship drives sustainable development.  Terranea Resort was honored with a 2019 SEED Award for Innovation because of its efforts in protecting the valuable coastal resources that define its pristine, natural surroundings on California’s Palos Verdes Peninsula with the following initiatives:

  • Decreasing Food & Water Waste: Terranea has enacted a new food waste recycling program, supporting the resort’s “20/20/20” goal, a pledge to reduce energy and water usage by 20% and send only 20% of its total waste to the landfill, all by the year 2020.
  • Green Team: Terranea employs a full-time sustainability team and a voluntary green team of 42 associates. The dedicated team conducts internally monthly Green Team meetings, monthly green challenges and campaigns, and works with volunteers and sustainability ambassadors who each have personal passion for sustainability.
  • Supporting the Community: The resort’s partially consumed, wholly usable toiletries left in guestrooms are donated to the Midnight Mission in downtown Los Angeles.  The resort also collaborates with Chefs to End Hunger, a non-profit organization that redistributes prepared food that would normally go to waste in hotels, restaurants, and other foodservice operations to local food agencies serving meals to those most in need.

This is just one more reason why we should all continue to support this beautiful resort which offers so much for the residents here on the peninsula. Whether it be the wonderful food choices, music programs, health options, children’s entertainment, or just its totally relaxing views, this unique location has it all.  Let’s join together in congratulating Terranea on their award acknowledging these wonderful initiatives that they have put in place.
