On Sunday, June 23 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., St Luke’s Presbyterian Church will be presenting a “Soprano & Guitar Duo.” Prior to this popular event, you can come early, picnic on the lawn, and then enjoy a Free Garden Concert.
This “Soprano & Guitar Duo” consists of Anastasia Malliaras, soprano, and Aaron Hass on Guitar. Anastasia and Aaron will perform soprano/guitar cycles by Spanish composers, sung in Ladino, Spanish and English, and Native American songs. Anastasia and Aaron are a voice/guitar duo that performs original repertoire as well as transcriptions that reinterpret the classic art song. Anastasia made her operatic debut in 2013, and is a graduate of USC where she received a Masters of Music in Vocal Arts. Aaron is a classical guitarist and self-proclaimed musical story-teller who graduated from Skidmore College and is currently at USC where he is pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts. Come early and enjoy a picnic and later enjoy dessert and coffee hosted by St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church.

Palos Verdes Joins Champions For Children 2019 5K Trail Run/Walk
Palos Verdes homes owners can join the sixth annual 5K trail run/walk fundraiser at Ernie Howlett Park for the South Bay Children’s Health Center. This fun event will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2019, beginning at 8:00 a.m. This is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy this great park while supporting the health center.
There is an exciting 5K trail run/walk course on the beautiful city equestrian and hiking trails. There will be age division awards with medals to the top three male and female athletes in 15 different divisions of the 5K. The day will be filled with family activities for children of all ages, vendor booths, a Kids Fun Run and a wonderful, healthy team spirit. Parents will be able to accompany small children at no cost.
The cost for the walk/run 5K for children ages 7 and under is $15, ages 8 to 12 is $25, and ages 13 to 90 is $35. Late registration and event day packet pick up will take place starting at 6:30 a.m. The Opening Ceremony and warm ups will start at 7:30 a.m. and runs will start thereafter.
South Bay Children’s Health Center exists to raise money and build awareness of the need for quality mental and oral health services for under-served children, teens and young adults throughout the South Bay and surrounding areas.

Palos Verdes Street Fair & Music Festivalwill becelebrating its 32nd year and Palos Verdes homes owners can enjoy all the events on Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9, 2019. As in past years, the Fair will have its “Friday Teen Fun Night” opening the carnival on Friday, June 7th, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. when local youth can enjoy a fun-filled night (with the purchase of discount tickets through their middle school or high school). The Fair will have more than 200 arts and crafts booths, carnival rides for children of all ages, an International Food Court, a children’s petting zoo, free pony rides, train rides, and live entertainment on two stages.
On the Main Stage, there will be continuous live entertainment starting each day at 11:00 a.m. On Saturday, June 8, 2019, the performers are: Fitchett (Blues), Hothouse (R &B /Soul/Jazz) Tenn West (California Country), YEA! Graduation, Running Hot (Rolling Stones Tribute), and Ticket to Ride (Beatles Tribute). On Sunday, June 9, 2019, beginning at 11:00 a.m. are: Alinea (Local Teen Band), Andy & Renee and Hard Rain (Classic Rock), Pretzel Logic (Steely Dan Tribute), Heartbeat City (Cars Tribute) & Blue Breeze (R & B/Soul/Motown). On the Community Stage, the entertainment will begin Saturday at 12:00 noon through 7:00 p.m. and Sunday at 12:00 noon through 5:00 p.m., along with local youth groups and performance troops on the Community Stage.
Animal rescue and adoptions will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m.to 6:00 p.m. There will be craft beers, unique food, and wine tastings at the International Food Court on both days.
There will be a Young Entrepreneurs Trade Show from 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday to see the businesses that these talented young CEOs are launching as part of the Chamber’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy for middle and high school students. You can also get tips on how your student can participate in this innovative program, and they will be located adjacent to the Community Plaza Stage in the Promenade on the Peninsula.

Palos Verdes homes owners can enjoy a day outside as Wayfarers Chapel presents their 3rd Annual Art Show. This fun event will feature “Art, Prose & Sound,” Fine Art, Handmade Jewelry, and Handmade Gifts.

Palos Verdes Bowl Offers Free Summer Bowling For Kids 2019!
Palos Verdes homes owners have a great opportunity to give their children an indoor activity this summer at the Palos Verdes Bowl. This is a fun environment for your children to enjoy summer with friends and family while getting some exercise at the same time. This is one activity that won’t break the wallet either, since it is free and fun for everyone starting with bumper bowling lanes for younger children and cosmic bowling for teens.
They are offering two free bowling games daily to children throughout the summer beginning June 1, 2019, and continuing through September 30, 2019. This summer bowling special is being offered daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (except on Wednesdays when hours are 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.). You can get ahead of the game by signing up early to give your children this wonderful opportunity now – Monday through Friday. Palos Verdes AYSO Early Bird Fall 2019 Registration Is Open Online!
Palos Verdes AYSO Soccer (Region 10) is currently accepting early bird online registration for Fall 2019. The Palos VerdesRegion 10 of the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) offers year round recreational and competitive youth soccer programs locally for four year olds (U5 division) all the way up to 19 year olds (U19). Several years ago the AYSO National changed the age divisions and it is now based on birthdays January 1 through December 31st. The age of your child in 2019 will determine their Fall division. The home page at http://ayso.bluesombrero.com/region10 will show the division and age slots.
The online registration for the new Fall soccer season is open and available until May 18, 2019. All parents must go to the registration website at http://ayso.bluesombrero.com/region10 and create a new account (for your child). If you enter your child’s name exactly as you did last year it will keep the same AYSO ID, but you will want to check all the information (including contact information) regarding your child for this year. All returning players in divisions U5 – U9 will need to register online, print the form and bring it to the walk in registration on May 18, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Hesse Park Community Center. If you are in the U10 – U19 group you must register online, but do not need to attend in person on May 18, 2019. Returning coaches are exempt for U10, U11, U12, U14, U16 and U19 can register online and pay by credit card to complete their registration without attending the in-person registration. Players in the U5 and U6 must register in person on May 18, 2019.
Walk in registration will take place only on Saturday, May 18th, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Hesse Park CommunityCenter. The cost for early registration until May 18, 2019, is $165 for your first child, and $150 for each additional child. If registering after May 18th through June 30, 2019, the cost will be $195 and no sibling discount. After June 30, 2019, the cost will be $240 and there will be no sibling discount. You still need to formally register in person if you do not meet the above requirements. Checks and cash will not be accepted at registration.
If you are interested in volunteering, you will find the required paperwork on the registration site. Since AYSO is a 100% volunteer organization, they are always looking for volunteers to fill coach and referee positions. (There is a special express line at registration for volunteers.) If your child has not played the previous year, you will be required to bring proof of your child’s age either by birth certificate or passport.

Palos Verdes Beach & Athletic Club 2019 Summer Swim Program
The Palos Verdes Beach and Athletic Club located in Palos Verdes Estates is once again offering their swim lesson program to both members and non-members at the PVBAC pool. Lessons are provided for children of all levels and are capped at 1 instructor per 5 students. This is not for recreational swimming, but for the specific lesson/program being offered. For a Palos Verdes Estates resident, a non-member session is $190. The program does fill up quickly so it’s important to enroll now if you are a member, otherwise non-member sign ups will start on Monday, April 29, 2019, for Palos Verdes residents. If classes are still available on May 10, 2019, non residents may apply at a fee session of $210. You should print the program brochure and have registration & waiver forms filled out/signed when you register in person. The three week swim sessions are on Tuesday through Friday (12 lessons/session) as follows: Session 1: June 10-June 27, Session 2: July 1-July 18, Session 3: July 22 -August 8, 2019.

Palos Verdes Celebrates 2019 Kids To Parks Day Fun!
Palos Verdes homes owners can join the National Celebration of Parks on Saturday, May 18, 2019, by taking their children to the park. This special Kids To Parks Day is a reminder of the importance that nature and playing in the great outdoors are for our children. To celebrate this special day, our local Point Vicente Interpretive Center has planned great activities for families to enjoy.
The Point Vicente Interpretive Center will be celebrating their fourth Annual Kids To Parks Day from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This event will take place at the Interpretive Center and will feature:
. Mobile Zoo of Southern California
. Sea Lab’s touch tanks with starfish and more
. Unleash your creative side at the craft booth
. Games – including corn-hole and hula-hoops
. Explore the information booths
. Tour the museum and native plant garden
. Enjoy the ocean breeze and short guided hikes
. There will be loads of prizes and more.

Terranea Resort is celebrating Earth Day this Saturday, April 20, 2019. They will be hosting family friendly events where attendees will learn to help the environment while having fun doing it. This should be an enjoyable day, for all ages.
Educational Green Wall – will take place at Pointe Discovery from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This will include Storybook reading – literature from the public library to encourage a more sustainable alternative to purchasing books. Landfill diversion game – will consists of 3 colored & labelled bins (compost-green, recycling-blue, landfill – black) with laminated cards of different products/items (pictures in front and fun facts on the back). Participants can determine where these products should go by putting them in the appropriate bins.
DIY Seed Bomb Station will take place at Point Discovery from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There is a suggested $5 donation to Palos Verdes School Gardens for this station. Here you can make your own herb, flower and vegetable seed bombs to take and plant your own warm season garden. All ages are welcome. No reservations are necessary.
Planting Station will take place at Pointe Discovery from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There is a suggested $5 donation to Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. Hotel guests and locals can plant native wildflower seeds to take home and grow courtesy of the conservancy. All ages are welcome and no reservations are necessary.
Guided Nature Walk will take place from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. and will meet in the hotel lobby. Tou can join one of Terranea’s naturalists for a complimentary guided walk along the nature trails. Guests will learn about Palos Verdes Peninsula’s unique local marine ecosystem and Terranea’s year-round conservation efforts. This is open to hotel guests and locals, offered daily and meets in the main lobby. No reservations are necessary.
Kelp Forest Cleanup Kayak Tour will meet at the Experience Center from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This is a fun coastal kayak tour where you can clean up trash along the way. You will be there to help beautify the kelp forest. This kayak tour is $80 and is open to the hotel guest and locals. This tour does require advance reservations.
Beach Frames Art Project will take place on Nelson’s Lawn from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at a cost of $10. You will join Art To Grow On Inc. and create your very own beach frame. Seashells, stones, sand, and more will make this an awesome way to honor our oceans and planet. All ages are welcome. No reservations are necessary.
Suzy Blue Butterfly Cookie Decorating will take place at Sea Beans from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at a cost of $4. Sea Beans will let you decorate your very own Suzy Blue butterfly cookie. Guests will be able to indulge their sweet tooth while learning about the Palos Verdes blue butterfly. No reservations are necessary.

The City of Rancho Palos Verdes will be having their Abalone Cove Beach Cleanup day on May 11, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Since the big tsunami several years ago, residue has slowly continued to arrive here on our coastline (in addition to our own local waste). Join the Rancho Palos Verdes Recreation and Parks Department for beach cleanup during low tide. Abalone Cove is a beautiful natural beach with tide pools, rock formations, and abundant sea life.
Palos Verdes homes owners have some of the cleanest beaches and we can all do our part to keep them this way. Heal the Bay is again reporting that Palos Verdes beaches and coves are in the current top Honor Roll 2017-2018 list for California. This means that our local waters have received grades of A and A+ throughout the year. Heal the Bay assigns weekly grades to more than 440 sites along the West Coast for summer dry-weather water quality and to another 60 locations that are on year round monitoring. Heal the Bay is a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to making Southern California coastal waters and watersheds safe, healthy and clean. They use science, education, community action, and advocacy to pursue their mission.
Come and join neighbors and friends at Abalone Cove and be a part of this fun volunteer day. Please remember to wear closed toe shoes, possibly a hat, and don’t forget your sunscreen. There will be a 10-15 minute hike down dirt trails to the beach.
