Third Grade Naturalist Docent Training will take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. If you are retired, a former teacher or an outdoor enthusiast, this program offers docent volunteers a wonderful way to share with young children their love for the Peninsula’s natural environment and to increase their own knowledge in the process. No experience is needed. Docents are provided with training and materials. This will take place at White Point Nature Preserve located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. Wildlife Tracking Training at various locations will take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Dedicated volunteers are needed to monitor species including wild foxes in the Palos Verdes Nature Preserve. There is no experience necessary and all training will be provided. There are four days of training required. This program continues on October 13, 20, & 27, 2018. Ages are 16 and up. Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Land Conservancy will take place at Alta Vicente Reserve on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. You will be exploring the 22 acre restoration site, a gnatcatcher habitat with beautiful views of Catalina Island. Nature & Me Storytime: Stories, Songs, Rhythm and Rhymes will take place on Friday, October 26, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Palos Verdes Library District’s librarian, Marisa Perley, shares books that open children’s eyes to the natural world all around them. Full Moon Hike at George F Canyon Nature Preserve will take place on Friday, October 26, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. Enjoy an amazing nocturnal experience with a guided naturalist who will lead you on a journey to explore nature under an illuminating full moon. Advance reservations are required to join one of these guided night walks. The group is limited to 20 people and ages 9 and up are welcome. The price for the event is $12 per person. George F Canyon Nature Center Docent Training will take place on Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. If you enjoy our local nature and want to share it with others, why not become a nature center docent. You can greet and interact with visitors in the Center and on the trail, answer basic questions about the Preserve, local nature, or direct visitor to resources, assist with preparations for field trips, scout badges and other special events.
