Palos Verdes homes owners will be interested in the new Home Energy Rating System (HERS) from the California Energy Commission. The Commission recently released their HERS booklet, “What is Your Home Energy Rating?” which can be accessed by clicking here. This booklet will:
– Explain Whole-House Home Energy Rating services and their benefits, and how to find a certified professional HERS rater.
– Provide home buyers, sellers, brokers and appraisers with information about the opportunity to invest in energy-efficiency improvements at the time of sale.
– Explain the rationale for obtaining utility bills from the seller.
– Identify the potential of adding sales appeal and value to your home through energy efficiency upgrades.
– Offer options for financing energy-efficiency improvements and explains whee to find tax credit and rebate information.
This booklet is not yet a mandatory disclosure in a real estate transaction but is recommended because it provides valuable information to the buyer.
