Palos Verdes AYSO 2021 New Winter Soccer Information!

ayso sign up 2015

Palos Verdes AYSO Soccer (Region 10) has had to change its season. As many of you are aware, the Palos Verdes AYSO Board decided to replace the traditional Fall Season with a Winter 2021 “Skills and Drills” Season.

There will be 8 clinics starting in February and each division will meet for either 45 minutes or 1 hour beginning the first week of February for eight weeks.  Winter 2021 Skills and Drills Season will have practices beginning Tuesdays on Feb. 2, and Wednesdays on Feb. 3, and Saturdays on February 6, per Wendy Murdoch, Region 10 Regional Commissioner. (This was rescheduled from January following the new guidance from the LA County Department of Health (1/13/2021). Each child will receive a ball and t-shirt. All Covid protocols will be followed – every coach will wear a mask, social distancing will be practiced, and parents will NOT be allowed to watch on the field (you will have to go back to your cars after you check in your child).

Please remember that a COVID waiver will be required to be on file for your child to participate. Please complete this form and bring it with you to the first session.

To find the schedule and location of practices for the next eight weeks click here.

For more information, check out the PV AYSO home page here.

Lunada Bay Little League 2021 Registration Is Open!

1 week ago • Children's Events, Community Events, Community Information, Things To Do In Palos Verdes

Lunada Bay Little League 2021 Registration Is Open!

Lunada Bay home owners who want their children play in the Lunada Bay Little League Spring 2021 season can register now. Lunada Bay Little League is committed to its player safety. Due to the uncertainty of play and Covid restrictions, you are not required to submit payment with your registration this year. They are hoping that everyone who intends on playing in the spring will register so that they will have an idea of how many players and teams they may be able to form at each level.

At this time they are planning on having tryouts in early January, with team formation and practices beginning in late January, and the regular season beginning in late February. This will all depend on LA County Health Dept reopening the county for youth organized sports. Once the county has lifted the restriction, your full registration payment will be due at that time in order for your children to participate. If you would like to pay with your registration, you are more than welcome to do so. If it turns out that season play is not allowed in Spring of 2021, they will be rebating those advance registration fees. So, if you are interested in having your children play in the spring, you can register now by clicking here. When you register, note that the website will ask you to choose a division with a corresponding initial fee amount. Just choose the correct division for your child and disregard the stated fee amount.  At the end of the registration process when you get to the payment page there will be a drop-down menu concerning payment.  Please select “Pay Offline.”  This will allow you to complete the registration process without making a payment at this time.  When the Little League is able to proceed, they will reach out again about fees.

As we all know from the past, one size does not always fit all. There are always exceptions to a child’s level of play. Below are some general guidelines for divisional league ages. However, if you would like help in determining your child’s play level, you can reach out through the website to contact damian.capozzola@hotmail.com.

ages 5-6:  T-ball (tee with some coach pitch)

age 7:  Farm (machine/coach pitch)

ages 9-8:  Minors (machine/kid pitch)

ages 11-10:  Intermediate

ages 11-12:  Majors

Palos Verdes Home Owners Enjoy Local Area Holiday Fun 2020!

1 month ago • Children's Events, Community Events, Community Information, Things To Do In Palos Verdes

Palos Verdes Home Owners Enjoy Local Area Holiday Fun 2020!

Palos Verdes homes owners have several local area holiday fun activities to enjoy. Elf (from Elf on the Shelf) has recently been seen at the South Coast Botanic Garden, and we heard his next visits will take place from December 14 to 20, and December 21 to 27, 2020. Since we’ve all been spending a lot of time at home this year, how about spending a little time out in nature enjoying the fresh air. The beloved Elf character from the “Elf on the Shelf” has broken free from quarantine and is heading to the Garden. We are told he will be hiding in different areas of the Garden during the day and will continue to move around each week up to Christmas. Tips on where to find him will be provided each week on local social channels so that you can see what he is up to or just follow him on Instragram  This is not only a fun family outing, but it is also a bit of a competition. If you take a picture with Elf and post it on Instagram, tagging @scbgarden and using the #ElfintheGarden hashtag from each location, you will be entered to win tickets to the butterfly pavilion opening at the Garden this spring. There are a few rules – so make sure you do not touch or remove Elf or any of his props. Don’t forget to bring along your camera, since this will be a great photo opportunity for all. Ticket prices are $15/adults, $11/students, $5 children and under 4 are free. Tickets must be purchased in advance, and you can do so by clicking here.

The South Coast Botanic Garden is located at 26300 Crenshaw Boulevard, Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Another great family activity that can still be enjoyed during the holiday season is viewing the lights in Sleepy Hollow (a.k.a. Candy Cane Lane).  Tucked away in a South Torrance neighborhood, it is one of the most spectacular displays of Christmas lights in the South Bay which can be viewed now through January 2, 2021. Due to COVID 19, they have requested that you drive only through the area. Masks and social distancing are being followed while traveling through the area. Sleepy Hollow Christmas Lights are located on Roberts Road off Pacific Coast Highway from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. every night until New Year’s Eve.  I recommend that you go early in the month, since the crowds are large between Christmas and New Years and this year El Segundo’s Candy Cane Lane will not be taking place due to the pandemic so it could possibly bring more traffic to the Sleepy Hollow area.

His current courses include Race, Class, and Gender, Research Methods, Statistics, Introduction to Sociology, and Global City: Los Angeles. As the last class implies, he loves L.A. The City of Los Angeles is the focus of his research interest (with special emphasis in race and gender). He uses Los Angeles as the foundation in many of his courses and leads a tour of L.A. for students every semester. Most recently, he took a group of students to Bruce’s Beach, located in Manhattan Beach, that was formerly a Black-owned property. Carlos is a devoted traveler and has traveled with students to London and Cuba. He has been voted Faculty Member of the Year four times by the student body and Educator of the Year by his faculty colleagues.

Light the Way Winter Reading Challenge is for kids up to the 8th grade and takes place through January 15, 2020. The idea is to complete four activities (each takes about 15-30 minutes) at the Bronze level. Next, complete four Silver level activities to advance to the Gold level. Then, complete four Gold Level activities, and you have met the challenge! To join go to pvld.beanstack.org.  Children who complete the whole challenge can drop by PVLD’s curbside pick-up to receive a Fun Pack with iron-on souvenir patches, some yummy snacks, and a secret surprise too! If you have any questions, call the Young Readers desk at (310) 377-9584 x 600 and leave a message and someone will get back with you.

Once registered on Kanopy, you will be able to see any of their “Feel Good” movies this month.

Enjoy a Holiday Treasure Hunt at Peninsula Center!

2 months ago • Children's Events, Community Events, Community Information, Things To Do In Palos Verdes

Enjoy a Holiday Treasure Hunt at Peninsula Center!

Palos Verdes homes owners have a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a great seasonal event with the Holiday Treasure Hunt at Peninsula Shopping Center on Saturday, December 19, 2020, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m.

This should be a fun family event where guests can pick up a holiday treasure hunt flyer at participating retailers or at the redemption table located near the Christmas Tree by Old Navy. Guests will then visit the retailers listed on the flyer, searching for a little red elf inside each store. Once they have located the elf, a store employee will stamp the box next to the store’s name on the flyer. When guests have obtained stamps from each participating retailer, they can trade their completed flyer for a $10 gift card at the redemption table.

There is one gift card per customer, while supplies last. This event is free and open to the public. COVID safety precautions including masks and social distancing will be strictly enforced for all visitors.

The Peninsula Shopping Center is located at 67 Peninsula Center, Rolling Hills Estates.
