The Jack Kramer Club opened in 1962 with just 9 tennis courts, 4 paddle tennis courts and several basketball courts. In 1963, the junior Olympic swimming pool and original clubhouse were completed. At that time, the membership purchased the land and facilities from Jack Kramer and issued stock certificates to its 246 original charter members. In 1972 three tennis courts were added, the junior lounge was built and paddle tennis courts were removed and replaced with yet another tennis court. The remodeling of the clubhouse in 1987 brought the pro shop and offices to the clubs current design.
The club is nationally renowned for its tennis activities and the world class players that have come from its courts starting at the junior divisions including Pete Sampras, Eliot Teischer, Lindsay Davenport, Kimberly Po, and of course Tracy Austin. Today the club offers excellent tennis classes, puts on many tennis competitions and is bringing up quite a few players to the higher ranks.
In addition to its great tennis facility, the club has a great swim program. With its junior Olympic pool you will find many pro swimmers keeping up their skills with the 25 yard lap swimming areas, diving areas with two 1 meter boards and also a kids shallow play area. The pool is heated all year long and has life guard services during the summer months.
Usually there are onlya few trial six month memberships available, but currently there are 6 or 7 equity based full memberships available. This is a great opportunity for Palos Verdes homes owners to sign up and enjoy these facilities throughout the year. This is a great location for social activities or just an evening of relaxing.
The club is open from Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and during the summer until 10:00 p.m. For more information regarding membership contact Bruce at (310) 326-4404.
