Palos Verdes homes owners have an opportunity to volunteer to assist in keeping our beaches clean. Heal the Bay recently named Palos Verdes beaches and coves as being on the 2011-2012 Honor Roll for California. That means that our local waters had received grades of A & A+ throughout the year.
The annual Coastal Clean-Up Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 15, 2012. Clean Up Day (CCD) is a worldwide beach clean up program, and the largest volunteer event on the planet. There are more than 60 sites in the county of Los Angeles, and one is here in Malaga Cove. Our city has partnered in this event since 1985. This year in addition to the normal clean up, Heal the Bay is also helping to monitor the Japan tsunami debris landing at Malaga Cove. Northern California beaches have already begun experiencing some of this debris, and our local beaches are not expecting any until the winter months. We are asked not to remove any of the debris, but to contact the City directly at (310) 378-0383.
You can participate and volunteer in a world event right here in your own backyard and enjoy our beautiful coast at the same time. For more information about Coastal Clean Up Day, go to www.healthebay.org.
