Palos Verdes homes owners will be able to experience their own Chinese New Year celebration right here on the Hill, with festivities taking place on Sunday, February 24, 2013, from 11:00 – 5:00 p.m., at the Promenade on the Peninsula. The festival started four years ago after a local resident and business owner decided to find a way for the community to enjoy this celebration. Last year the event attracted close to 2,000 people, and this year they are expecting approximately 3,000.
The guests attending this year’s event will enjoy food vendors, a children’s game and craft area, raffles, and six hours of entertainment featuring martial arts, singers, music, poetry, instruments and the signature performance of the lion dance. A new cooking program will be offered this year and the teacher will be showing the audience simple practical ways to prepare Chinese food. Theresa Lin will conduct the first of two cooking shows. She is the chairman for the Chinese Restaurant Foundation. Cooking classes will take place at 1:00 and 2:00 p.m.
