Palos Verdes Peninsula Seniors Lecture Series

 

After searching for a new lecture staff member, Lianne LaReine has thankfully stepped up and taken over the Peninsula Seniors Lecture Series.  These lectures take place at Hesse Park, located at 29301 Hawthorne Blvd, Rancho Palos Verdes, in the Fireside Room on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Palos Verdes homes owners can learn about interesting and varying topics at these lectures.  It’s also a good opportunity to meet and socialize with other local residents.

April 24, 2013 – Greg Levonian who teaches English at Marymount College, will be discussing “Oz and Ends; Wisdom from the Emerald City” which is his first book. The discussion will include the simple but profound wisdom in L.Frank Baum’s fourteen-book Oz series.

May 1, 2013 – Connie Senner, of Torrance Memorial Hospital, interfaces between architects, contractors, designers and hospital personnel, and she will be discussing the last 4 years of construction activities which have taken place at the hospital including the New Main Tower at Torrance Memorial.

May 8, 2013 – Joe Mardesich, a native Californian and teacher for 51 years, will talk about “The History of Your Life” highlighted by historical events.  This informative, interesting, humorous and uplifting presentation will give you appreciation of your life.

May 15, 2013 – Ed Storti will be highlighting the disease of addiction symptoms and character traits.  Questions will be answered regarding addiction as to “Why can’t one stop or control one’s use?”  The presentation on the “Disease of Appetite,” will be interesting.

May 22, 2013 – The Rancho Palos Verdes Building & Safety Division will be discussing some of the latest building code requirements related to Fire Safety and Awareness, Backyard & Pool Safety, Energy & Green Building and Disaster Safety and Mitigation.  The team headed by Paul Christman will be presenting as part of National Building Safety Month.

May 29, 2013 – Michael George will be back again to discuss “If Walls Could Talk.”  This is a fun series which gets everyone going with questions like “What do you know about your house?”  Mike George, reference librarian and historian at the Torrance Katy Geissert Civic Center Library, will give tips on how to find out about your home’s history.
