Palos Verdes Peninsula Seniors Lectures & Coffee & Cars August 2015

The Peninsula Seniors Lecture Series August 2015 is a great opportunity for Palos Verdes homes owners to hear interesting speakers and learn new information. These Lectures take place at Hesse Park located at 29301 Hawthorne Boulevard, Rancho Palos Verdes, in the Fireside Room on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

August 5, 2015 – Shelly Stockwell-Nicholas, PhD, Joy Therapy – Shelly is the creator of Joy Therapy, which she says is made up of joy and laughter and is what we are all after.  She will assist you in several wonderful laughing yoga exercises which should help elevate your mood.  She is also the author of 17 books and the President of the International Hypnosis Federation.

August 12, 2015 – Jean Alden and the Reader’s Theater Repertoire present “Washington’s Loves” by Miro Gavran.  The playwright, Miro Gavran, explains that George came to him in a dream in 1988 and told him that the story that is described in the play, describes the truth of the human heart and not the truth of historical fact.  This play is supposed to be the most truthful recording of that dream where George admits that his ghost was there at Mount Vernon when his wife Martha and mistress Sylvia met.

August 19, 2015 – Dr. David Hart – Memory Boosters – This is a two part strength and flexibility training for the brain presenting novel activities that stimulate the different regions of the cerebral cortex.  He will also discuss strategies for improving memory function which is said to decrease the possibility of developing dementia.

August 26, 2015 – Cynthia Young –  Barbie, Bedrooms and Beyond – Cynthia who is an interior, landscape and fashion designer has met and designed for many celebrities including Barbara Sinatra, Zsa Zsa Gabor and Lucille Ball.  She was also former Vice President of Design at Mattel for Barbie,  and is now applying these creative experiences to help you create your own spaces.

Special Movie Program – Friday, August 21, 2015, 1:00 p.m. – The movie, Woman in Gold, is about the Jewish refugee Maria Altman who was forced to flee Vienna during World War II.  She is determined to salvage her dignity and also a painting the Nazis stole from her family called the Lady in Gold.  This is based on a true story, and stars Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds, Jonathan Pryce, Katie Holmes and Max Irons.

COFFEE & CARS

On Saturday, August 1, 2015, the Peninsula Seniors will sponsor Coffee & Cars at the Peninsula Shopping Center (Silver Spur Road and Hawthorne Boulevard in Rolling Hills Estates).  A group of car enthusiasts will bring their Hot Rod, Custom, Muscle Car, Sports Car, Antique, and other special interest vehicles, to the Peninsula Shopping Center parking lot where you can admire the cars, meet the owners and ask them questions.

Coffee & Cars is held the first Saturday of every month 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the back parking area near the intersection of Crossfield Drive and Indian Peak Road (across from the Norris Theatre) in the Peninsula Shopping Center.  Each month, a different type of car is featured.
