Los Serenos de Point Vicente docents will be offering a tour of the Point Vicente Lighthouse & Museum, the native plant garden and a walk along the spectacular bluff top at the Vicente Bluff Reserve on Saturday, August 12, 2017, beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Palos Verdes homes owners will have the opportunity to enjoy a tour of the Point Vicente Lighthouse, which is not often open to the public, and view the Point Vicente Lighthouse Museum.   You will enjoy the beauty of the lighthouse which stands 67 feet tall and is one of the area’s jewels.  The lighthouse beam shines 185 feet high and can be seen twenty miles out over the ocean.  Point Vicente was named in 1790 by Captain George Vancouver in honor of his good friend, Friar Vicente of the Mission Buenaventura.  In 1979, the Point Vicente Lighthouse was added to the National Registry of historic sights.  This is such a special location visited by people from all around the world who come to view the Peninsula, visit the Center and marvel at the beauty of the area.

This fun day also includes an easy hike along the spectacular bluff top at the Vicente Bluff Reserve.  You will enjoy the beautiful view of our Palos Verdes coastline on your quiet, peaceful walk.  After your tour, you can visit the native plant garden located adjacent to the museum.  The group will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the parking lot next to the Point Vicente Interpretive Center located at 31501 Palos Verdes Drive West in Rancho Palos Verdes.

The Los Serenos de Point Vicente docent organization was founded in 1984 and has been sharing information on both the natural and cultural history of the Palos Verdes Peninsula to both children and adults who visit the museum.  The first volunteer group had 25 volunteers who had to train with experts on the history, geology and marine animals – that original class selected the name “Los Serenos de Point Vicente” which means “Night Watchman of Point Vicente” to represent their group.  This organization is always looking for volunteers and on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., they will be hosting an open house for prospective new docents at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center.  You can learn all about this wonderful organization that has benefited children and the community since its conception.
