The City of Rancho Palos Verdes, and the docents of Los Serenos de Point Vicente are once again sponsoring “Whale of a Day” for all Palos Verdes homes owners and their neighbors throughout the South Bay to enjoy.  This is a festival which celebrates the migration of the Pacific Gray Whale from its summer feeding grounds in the Bering and Chucki Seas in Alaska to its winter breeding and calving grounds in Baja.  As of February 10, 2014, there have been 1,090 whales counted already this year.  If you are looking for a popular fun outing for the whole family to enjoy, stop by the Point Vicente Interpretive Center and participate in the free “Whale Of A Day” activities.

Whale Of A Day is Saturday, March 1, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include whale watching from the shore, museum tours, Point Vicente Lighthouse tours (ages 7 and older and a minimum of 44″ tall) exhibits and much more.   The children will enjoy crafts, games, fun zone and face painting, story telling and chalk drawing – all at no charge.  The arts & crafts, exhibits and vendors will be marine themed.  This event always has great live entertainment which includes music and animals.  Some of the past participants have included The Aquarium of the Pacific with its Aquarium on Wheels, Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, George F Canyon Nature Center, Save the Manatee, National Marine Fisheries, Heal the Bay, Marine Mammal Care Center, South Bay Wildlife Rehab and other local organizations.  And if you are hungry, there will be multiple food booths to buy treats throughout the day.

There is free parking and even a shuttle to drive you to and from the event.  Park at the Rancho Palos Verdes City Hall at 30940 Hawthorne Blvd, Rancho Palos Verdes.  For more information call (310) 544-5260 or go to www.whaleofaday.com.
