Palos Verdes Half Marathon and 5K/10K Run In November

pv marathon 2015

The Palos Verdes Half Marathon and 10K and 5K run will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014.  After a rocky start without a sponsor, the Lexus LacedUp Running Series came to the rescue.  Lexus is underwriting the costs of the event and hopes to raise $10,000 to $25,000 for both the Kiwanis Club and the non profit Back on My Feet Los Angeles, which helps those who are homeless get back to independent living.

The race will start and finish at Pelican Cove adjacent to Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes.  This event includes a beer garden, a giant expo, live music and food.  Bonuses this year include free T-shirts, medals and a post run local food truck brunch and Sierra Nevada beer.  Organizers hope to have 1,200 runners this year, which would be an increase from the 1,000 runners last year.  This is the third time in 48 years of staging the marathon in Palos Verdes that there will only be a half marathon offered.

The race course will be limited to the ocean side of  Palos Verdes Drive South and Palos Verdes Drive West, between Narcissa Drive and Rancho Palos Verdes’ northerly border at Palos Verdes Estates.  A portion of the course will pass through the Oceanfront Estates neighborhood on Calle Entradero and Via Vicente.  With one of the most scenic vistas of rolling hills and coastline views, this event attracts runners and spectators from all over the world.

The half marathon and 10K will start at 7:00 a.m. and the 5K will start at 8:30 a.m.  To register for the event go to laceuprunningseries.com.  Tickets purchased before November 14, 2014, are $45 for 5K, $75 for 10K and the half marathon is $95.  If purchased the day of the race, prices are $50-5K/$80-10K and $100-half marathon.  Race packets can be picked up on Thursday, November 13, 2014, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Road Runner Sports located at 25359 Crenshaw Blvd, Torrance.

According to the city website, Event parking is being provided at four different off-site locations for race participant and event attendees.  General event parking will be provided at Rancho Palos Verdes Citry Hall and the Salvation Army property.  Vehicles with three or more passengers will be able to park at the Palos Verdes Interpretive Center and Golden Cove Shopping Center. Parking areas will open at 5:00 a.m. and close by 2:00 p.m.
