Palos Verdes Art Center is known for its generous selection of adult classes, and now they are offering more specific classes for middle school teens and those thinking about college prep courses.

On Monday afternoons, the Palos Verdes Art Center is offering a variety of classes to help students try their hand at different art mediums.  Grab a quick snack after school at the new Stripe Cafe, and then join in “Explore, Experiment & Express” where every week there is a chance to try a different medium.  Students will try a variety of colored pencils, markers, chalk pastels or watercolor and collage on a variety of surfaces.  The class has 5 sessions and runs from April 6 through May 4, 2015, from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m.  The class is $130 for non members, and $100 for members and includes all of the supplies needed.

For the more inquisitive child, how about “Drawing for Aspiring Designers, Engineers and Architects.”  On Mondays, May 11 through June 15, 2015, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. the class will tackle different challenges such as to how do you design a skateboard, or how do engineers create scuba diving snorkels, or how does an architect create a building.   The students will be taught that everything that is designed and engineered first starts with a drawing or series of drawings.  Students will be taught the basic techniques of product engineering and architectural drawing, and how to think like the designer, engineer or architect.  This class has 5 sessions and cost $120 for non members and $90 for members.  Supplies are not included.

Animation will be taught on Thursdays April 9 through June 4, 2015, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  This traditional animation class teaches the hand drawn technique developed and refined by the artists of Walt Disney studios.  Students will learn how to create the illusion of life by drawing a series of still images that will be photographed individually and then played back as an animated movie.  The class will cost $150 for non members and $120 for members.
