365 Things To Do In Palos Verdes – Palos Verdes Estates Memorial Garden

The Palos Verdes Estates Memorial Garden  is located at  the intersection of Via Corta, Palos Verdes Drive West and Via del Puente.  This park memorializes Palos Verdes Estates residents who gave their lives fighting in the armed forces, and two Palos Verdes Estates police officers who were killed in the line of duty.

Originally it was dedicated to John Bleeker, Hammon Sadler, and Morris Shipley who lost their lives in World War II while protecting our country.  On Valentines Day in 1994, two Police Officers, Captain Michael Tracy and Sergeant Tom Vanderpool, were killed while on city business by a gunman at a local hotel.  The memorial includes a bronze sundial and a plaque bearing the officers’ names.  It is a place where you can reflect on the beauty surrounding us while stopping to honor the memories of those who have served and protected us.
