365 Things To Do In Palos Verdes – Visit Marilyn Ryan Sunset Point Park

Marilyn Ryan Sunset Point Park in Rancho Palos Verdes is a little gem located at the southwest corner of Palos Verdes Drive South and Ocean Trails Drive.  Most Palos Verdes homes owners are unaware of this 1.5 acre “pocket park” that was named in memory of Marilyn Ryan, the city of Rancho Palos Verdes’ first mayor and later our State Assembly Woman for the 51st District.  Marilyn Ryan passed away at the age of 75 from congestive heart failure but her legacy lives on.  She is recognized for her vision to protect our coastline, and was instrumental in the formation of Save Our Coastline.  This group focused their efforts in stopping the over-development what was the unincorporated areas of the Peninsula (it would have consumed 90 perent of Rancho Palos Verdes coastline).

Give yourself the gift of beauty and reflection as you sit on one of the benches that overlook Trump National Golf Course and the ocean.  The Marilyn Ryan Sunset Point Park also includes a memorial to Officer Randall Simmons, the LAPD SWAT officer from Rancho Palos Verdes who lost his life in the line of duty.  The city named the pedestrian bridge shown above the “Officer Randal Simmons Memorial Bridge.”
