365 Things To Do In Palos Verdes – Family Picnic Day & Bulb Planting at South Coast Botanic Garden

The South Coast Botanic Garden, known as “The Jewel of the Peninsula,” has some fun family activities for our Palos Verdes homes owners to participate in.  On Saturday, November 19, 2011, from 9:00 to 5:00 p.m., you can learn how to plant bulbs for Spring blooms, and what soils are better for specific plants.  After the rains, this would be a great time to get the bulbs into the ground.  Also, beginning at 1:00 p.m., the Upper and Lower Meadow will be open for family picnics.

In addition to learning about bulb planting, you can relax and enjoy this 87 acre Botanic Garden which has more than 2,500 different species of plants.  This wide variety of plant life helps to provide food and shelter to animal wildlife which exists here on the Peninsula.  Currently, many plants are in bloom – the Shrimp Plant, Blue Butterfly Bush, Pine Leaf Milkweed, Yellow Jacobinia, Amber Queen, Balkan and many more.  Tram tours will run at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at a cost of $4.

The South Coast Botanic Garden is located at 26300 Crenshaw Boulevard, Palos Verdes Peninsula.  The hours are 9:00 to 5:00 p.m. and it is open 364 days a year (closed only on Christmas Day).  Entry prices are: adults/$8, seniors 62+/$6, students with I.D./$6, children 5-12/$3, and children under 4 are free (Admission is cash only).
