On January 17, 2013, Fox News.com announced the “12 Most Beautiful Churches in America.” Palos Verdes homes owners will be happy to know that our very own Wayfarers Chapel, located in Rancho Palos Verdes, was on this list of the most architecturally inspiring churches.
The article describes how Lloyd Wright, the son of Frank Lloyd Wright, used the perfect combination of nature and architectural genius to create the “tree chapel” and how he made the chapel a natural sanctuary encased in glass with views of the surrounding forest and the nearby Pacific Ocean. These are typical traits of Organic Architecture, which uses nature as the framework and regards the space inside as sacred. They also discuss the fact that Wayfarers Chapel was built along the Palos Verdes Peninsula so that travelers could rest and give thanks to God for the beauty around them.
Some of the other churches that were mentioned in the article were: Cathedral Church of St John the Devine, New York City, Washington National Cathedral located in Washington, DC, St. Mary of the Angels, Chicago, Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis, St. Louis, Missouri, Cathedral of St. Paul, St. Paul, Minnesota, Thorn Crown Chapel located in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, St. Mary’s Catholic Church Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary at High Hill, High Hill, Texas, Memorial Presbyterian Church, St. Augustine, Florida, Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, California, Cathedral Basilica of St Louis King of France, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Cathedral of St Andrew, Honolulu, Hawaii.
