Have you been looking for a way to get your children more involved in caring about the world around them? Do you want to teach them to understand how their participation will help to encourage a more “green” environment? With all the discussions about leaving our “footprints on this earth,” the younger generation seems to be taking more interest in their own local communities. The City of Rancho Palos Verdes is offering a Junior Ranger Program for Palos Verdes homes owners’ children from 7 to 12 years of age to learn about the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The program will teach them about our local trails, the wildlife and outdoor preparedness to enable them to have basic trail etiquette, and safety practices here on the Peninsula.
This month’s program will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the Ladera Linda Community Center, located at 32201 Forrestal Drive, Rancho Palos Verdes 90275. The children will learn how local Native Americans used indigenous plants for food and how they were able to make everyday things such as spoons and musical instruments. The program will run through May and end up with an overnight camp out at Point Vicente Park/Civic Center. Upon completion of the program, the children will receive a Junior Ranger certificate. This program is free for all participants.
It is recommended that you preregister for the program as soon as possible. Call the recreation services manager at (310) 544-5266.
