On Saturday, May 11, 2013, at 6:00 p.m., the Peninsula Education Foundation (PEF) will be holding its annual “Maint Event” fundraiser to assist in reaching their funding goal of $3,000,000 for the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District. This year’s event “Flamenco del Mar” will be held at Terranea Resort to benefit all Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District children and offers Palos Verdes homes owners an enjoyable night out on the town. This fun-filled evening offers a silent auction, wine, live auctions, dining and dancing to the sounds of L’Amour. The cost is $250 per person.
The Peninsula Education Foundation was founded in 1979 for the sole purpose of raising the much needed money for our schools that was not being provided for by the state. The first gift to the School District was only $250,000. Since then, the number of students and amount of government aid has varied tremendously and the school district relies on these donations from PEF for the shortfall. This year, PEF has pledged $3 million to our schools – $1.5 million to be spent to retain teachers and keep class sizes smaller and the additional $1.5 million will be used for music instruction, school counselors and many other services.
