If you haven’t’ been to The Costume Closet lately then you are in for a big surprise! Their inventory has grown to over 8,000 costumes, and they have increased not only their Halloween costumes areas, but also their theatrical/period clothing, wedding/formal wear and high end vintage clothing. Their accessory and shoe department has tripled since my last visit, and now can be accessed quickly with their new computer system. The rental pricing cannot be beat, and rentals are usually for a week except for specialty items and theatrical costumes. Credit cards are now accepted for payment. It is a good idea to reserve your costumes early, as they seem to go fast. Whether you’re doing a school project, dressing for Halloween, or need something fun for a costume party, this is the place to visit. You can find just about anything here and you will be able to complete the entire look with all their accessories.
The Costume Closet is located in the former Malaga Cove School grounds in Palos Verdes Estates near the Palos Verdes School District headquarters. It is a community service program of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Council of PTAs and is supported by volunteers which help keep this non profit running. The original purpose of this organization was to help support the community’s needs for theatrical costuming for its local schools, but now, after thirty six years, it has developed into a full party event supplier. As with any non profit organization, volunteers are needed to keep the operations running. They are always looking for volunteers who can commit to twice a month for a period of at least six months. Costume Closet volunteers earn rental credit for each hour of volunteer service.
The Costume Closet hours of operation are: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Saturday – 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Tuesday’s are by appointment for theatrical productions. They observe all PVPUSD school holidays.
However, for those special Halloween Costumes you may need, beginning Monday, October 14, 2013, they will be open Monday – Friday from 10-6, and Saturday 10 – 4 until the beginning of November.
