Palos Verdes Neighborhood Church Summer Sunday Sounds
The Palos Verdes Neighborhood Church Summer Sunday Sounds will be starting their 2014 season on Sunday, June 15, 2014, with additional concerts on July 20 and August 17, 2014. This is a great time for Palos Verdes homes owners to sit on the seaside terrace of this beautiful church and enjoy a picnic (bring your own) at 6:00 p.m. The concerts actually begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall and are presented free of charge.
On June 15th, back by popular demand, Eric Riger and Friends will present their Traditional Irish Music. If you haven’t heard them yet, you will be mesmerized by the Irish uilleann pipes, Scottish small pipes and tin whistles. plus Kira Ott on the fiddle and Jimmy Murphy on the guitar. Eric has been playing for years and you have probably heard his pipes either from the theme song for the movie “Titanic”, or his performance of “Amazing Grace” for President Reagan’s funeral service. Eric has also played on hundreds of films and recordings and has been called the most recorded piper in history.
On July 20th, John Brown, the singer/songwriter who has been playing throughout Southern California since the 70’s, will be sharing his smooth vocal style along with his accomplished guitar melodies. At his prior performance at the Neighborhood Church he was joined by his band, but this time he will have his son Evan, who is also a singer/songwriter and recording artist, joining him.
On August 17th, The Miskey Moutain Boys will be taking the stage. Their Bluegrass sound is like no other. The band features the musicianship of John Marshall, Even Marshall, Duane Michaels and Michelle Lynsky. Evan is known as one of the preeminent mandolinist of the world, with his virtuoso duo-style playing, and jaw dropping rendition of the William Tell Overture. John is also a virtuoso of his craft, with his unique melodic rhythmic slap bass style. Duane is known for his masterful solos and fiddle playing. Michelle has been a featured performer on films and soundtracks for more than 20 years and is a world championship Irish Dancer. The group has performed all over the world and even locally at the Hollywood Bowl.
