During the month of February 2016, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering outdoor activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy including bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk and volunteer opportunities which are listed below.

Special Events: 

Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place at Deane Dana Friendship Park on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  You will be able to enjoy some of the best LA/Long Beach harbor and Catalina views on the east side of the Peninsula.  You will see the Palos Verdes blue butterfly habitat restoration area.  This is considered a moderate walk.  Park in the lot at the Nature Center parking lot located at 1805 W. 9th Street, San Pedro.  This walk is free and open to the public.  For more information, call (310) 541-7613 x 201 or visit the website at www.pvplc.org.

Trail Crew Introductory Class will take place at the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Office on Saturday, February 13, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. You will join the Trail Crew for monthly field practice in trail assessment and repair techniques.  This Introductory Class will give an overview to the 50 hour certification training program.  Snacks and refreshments will be served. Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy 4th Saturday Workshop: Drought, El Nino and Water Reliability, will take place on Saturday, February 27, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the White Point Nature Education Center located at 1600 W. Paseo Del Mar in San Pedro.  The workshop will cover conservation, recycling and desalination with Ron Wildermuth from the West Basin Metro Water District.  RSVP is recommended at info@pvplc.org or (310) 541-7613.

Monthly Activities:

First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on February 6, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. with a guided walk through the canyon.  All ages are welcome.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information, call (310) 547-0862.

The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk will take place at George F Canyon on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at 8:30 a.m.  Binoculars will be provided and this is a slow easy walk.  This walk is free and open to the public.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.  For more information, call (310) 547-0862.

The Family Garden Exploration with LA City Rangers will take place on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at the White Point Nature Preserve from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Your children will enjoy spending time with the LA City Rangers and their mobile nature exhibit.  People of all ages can participate in wildlife demonstrations and explore the surrounding native plant demonstration garden with the Ranger.  This is a free family hike guided by LA City Rangers through the beautiful 102 acre White Point Nature Preserve.  Meet at the information kiosk between the parking lot and Nature Center.  The Preserve is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.  For more information, visit www.pvplc.org or call (310) 541-7613.

Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at 8:30 a.m.  Explore the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the Preserve.  The program is free and open to the public.  All ages are welcome.  White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.  Call (310) 541-7613 to sign up.

Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Saturday, February 20, 2016.  Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time.  Children must be at least 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person.

Nature Walk with the LA City Rangers at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at 10:00 a.m.  You can enjoy a family oriented walk led by the Los Angeles City Rangers.  No reservations are required.  White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar in San Pedro.

Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Native Plant Sale at White Point Nature Education Center on Saturday, February 27, 2016, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m.  The center is located at 1600 W. Volunteer Opportunities: 

Outdoor Volunteer Days during the month of February will take place at the Native Plant Nursery on Monday through Friday, beginning Monday, February 1, 2016, at 9:00 a.m.  Nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects.  Must RSVP at least 48 hours prior to the date you wish to volunteer.  Email info@pvplc.org to RSVP.

Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  You will plant shrubs and remove weeds to beautify the native plant garden and habitat.  Please sign up at http://pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
