Palos Verdes Hikes & Trails Events June 2016
During the month of June 2016, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering outdoor hikes/activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy including bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk and volunteer opportunities which are listed below.
Special Events:
Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place at Abalone Cove Shoreline Park, on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. You will visit the beautifully landscaped trails with interpretive signage and enjoy a walk down to explore the tide pools and pillow lava formations. This is considered a moderate walk. You can park in the lot at Abalone Cove Shoreline Park located at 5970 Palos Verdes Drive South. The parking fee will be waived. Singin’ the Blues and other PV Butterflies by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the White Point Nature Education Center on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. You will get viewing tips and meet local butterfly expert Jess Morton from the Palos Verdes/South Bay Audubon Society. Become a White Point Nature Center Docent with a Training on June 4, 2016, at 9 a.m. As a docent you can help increase accessibility for visitors to enjoy the White Point Nature Education Center. (Open Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) No skills or experience is required; just an interest in learning more about the area’s local natural and cultural history and geology. You must be 18 years or older. A training session will be held by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy on June 4, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon at White Point Nature Preserve, 1600 W. Nature & Me Storytime – Join the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy and the Palos Verdes Library District on June 10, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at the George F./ Canyon Nature Center. Your children will love to sing, listen to a story, enjoy a puppet show and engage in activities in beautiful natural surroundings. Geared for ages 2 to 5 years of age. The First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. Bring your family and join our naturalist guide to discover habitat, wildlife and more on an easy hike up the canyon with amazing views of the city. The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk will take place at George F Canyon on Sunday, June 5, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. Binoculars will be provided and this is a slow easy walk. Family Day at White Point Nature Preserve, will take place on Saturday, June 11, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Your family will enjoy wildlife demonstrations and exploring the surrounding native plant demonstration garden with one of our Naturalists. White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar in San Pedro. Meet at the information kiosk between parking lot and Nature Center. Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. Explore the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the Preserve. Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Saturday, June 18, 2016. Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time. Children must be at least 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person.
Birding with Wild Birds at George F Canyon will take place on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. Explore the birds in nesting season making a home in the Conservancy protected habitat. The program is free and all ages are welcome. Parking is available at the Center which is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates. 4th Saturday Nature Walk at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. You will enjoy a family oriented guided walk and naturalist activities for all ages. Native Plant Sale at White Point Nature Education Center will take place on Saturday, June 25, 2016, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at 1600 W. Paseo Del Mar in San Pedro.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Outdoor Volunteer Days during the month of June will take place at the Native Plant Nursery on Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m. You will nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects.
