Palos Verdes Hikes & Trails Events July 2016
During the month of July 2016, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is offering outdoor hikes/activities for Palos Verdes home owners to enjoy including bird walks, nature walks with naturalists, nocturnal full moon walk and volunteer opportunities which are listed below.
Special Events:
Guided Nature Walk by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will take place at La Rotunda/Ocean Trails West Reserve on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. You will walk along the restored habitat on the bluffs surrounding the Trump National Golf Club, and possibly catch a glimpse of rare California gnatcatcher songbirds while walking to the beach. This is considered a moderate to strenuous walk. You may park in the public lot at the end of La Rotunda Drive, half mile east of the golf club entrance, Trump National Drive. Hiking Responsibly In Nature presentation will be hosted by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the White Point Nature Education Center on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. How to enjoy the trails while protecting the habitat will be discussed by a LA City Ranger. The event is free and will be held at the White Point Nature Education Center located at 1600 W. Paseo Del Mar in San Pedro. Monthly Activities:
The First Saturday Family Hike at George F Canyon will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. Bring your family and join a naturalist guide to discover habitat, wildlife and more on an easy hike up the canyon with amazing views of the city. The First Sunday Beginners Bird Walk will take place at George F Canyon on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. Binoculars will be provided and this is a slow easy walk. This walk is free and open to the public. George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates. Family Day at White Point Nature Preserve, will take place on Saturday, July 9, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Your family will enjoy wildlife demonstrations and exploring the surrounding native plant demonstration garden with one of the Naturalists. White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar in San Pedro. Meet at the information kiosk between parking lot and Nature Center. Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve on Sunday, July 17, 2016. Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time. Children must be at least 9 years of age and there is a fee of $12 per person.
Birding with Wild Birds at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. Observe the birds now making a home in the restored habitat at the Preserve. The program is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome. White Point Nature Education Center is located at 1600 West Paseo del Mar in San Pedro. Call (310) 541-7613 to sign up.
Walk & Shop – 4th Saturday Nature Walk at White Point Nature Preserve will take place on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. You will enjoy a family oriented guided walk and naturalist activities for all ages, followed by a Native Plant Sale from 12:00-2:00 p.m. White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Volunteer Opportunities:
Outdoor Volunteer Days during the month of July will take place at the Native Plant Nursery on Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m. You will nurture seedlings and grow shrubs for habitat restoration projects. Must RSVP at least 48 hours prior to the date you wish to volunteer. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
Rapid Response – Trail Work (Various locations in July) – 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. At these locations you will help close spur trails to protect important wildlife habitat all over the preserve. To sign up go to www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com.
