Palos Verdes Library District April 2017 Activities

The Palos Verdes Library District offers great opportunities for Palos Verdes homes owners during the month of April.  There are interesting classes for both adults and children to enjoy.  Listed below are just a few of the fun events that are available:

Art in our Library will hold an Art Reception for the students of the Success Learning Center.  The center is a special education school at Malaga Cove School that serves children from grades K-12.  The exhibit will be showcasing the students’ artwork created this school year.  The exhibit will run from March 31 to April 28, 2017.

Celebrate Dia! will take place on Friday, April 14, 2017, at the Peninsula Center Library Community Room.  This celebration of Di’a de los libros/de los ninos (Book Day/Children’s Day), invites everyone to join them for stories and games from around the world.

Open Mic Night will take place on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Peninsula Center Library Community Room.  April is National Poetry Month, and at the library they will be celebrating with an acoustic performance by John Torres followed by an open mic session.  This is an opportunity to bring your own original work, share a favorite poem from another author, sing a song, or just get inspired by others.

Book to Art Club will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at the Peninsula Center Library Purcell Meeting Room.  This newest book club at PVLD, will get together every other month, read a book, and then come together to make artworks inspired by the readings and discussion.  Supplies will be provided, but you can also bring your own.  No registration is required, and at the first meeting they will be discussing “The Patron Saint of Ugly” by Marie Manilla.

Community Family Sumi-E Painting will take place on Sunday, April 30, 2017, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Peninsula Center Library Foyer.  This all ages collaborative art project will kick off the month long celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage month.  At the library, they will be creating an extra large art piece using traditional Japanese art techniques.  The artwork will then be hung in the library for the entire month for all to enjoy.  The supplies will be provided and no registration is necessary.
