Peninsula Seniors 2017 Lecture Series & Coffee and Cars In May
Palos Verdes homes owners have a wonderful opportunity to hear several interesting topics discussed at the May 2017 Peninsula Seniors Lectures Series. These Lectures take place at Hesse Park located at 29301 Hawthorne Boulevard, Rancho Palos Verdes, in the Fireside Room on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
May 3 – Jackie Goldbert – “Get Up, Get Out & Get a Life”, is the fun book that Jackie wrote to inspire seniors to live their life to the fullest. Pink Lady Jackie is a producer, an actress, author and community builder, plus a motivational speaker. She has an amazing ability to lift and energize all those around her.
May 10 – Phillip A. Hoffman will talk about The Art of Silent Storytelling, from the script to the Screen. Phillip will be describing the design process of being presented with a script/idea for a show, and the challenges of the art of telling the story to best communicate the plot and the story. Mr. Hoffman, designer for advertising, entertainment, commercial and residential environments, began his career creating product shots for consumer product print advertising.
May 17 – Dr. David Meyer, President & CEO of LA Biomed, will present The Microbiome. More than half of your body is not human. The bacterial and fungal cells in your gut outnumber the human cells in your whole body by at least two-fold, or perhaps as high as ten-fold. What are they doing there? This lecture will focus on the “human microbiome” and how 21st century medicine is going to have to adapt to this new reality.
May 24 – Don Christy – “Hey Baby, What’s Your Sign?” – This astrological adventure will cover: What is Astrology? How do people use it? How can I get in on the fun? Don Christy is an author, historian, documentary producer, and a Peninsula resident who will be sharing his knowledge and insight with us.
May 30 – Bob Saman – Everything You’ve Ever Wanted to Know about Hummingbirds but Were Afraid to Ask. Bob is the owner of Wild Birds Unlimited in Torrance and will give this special presentation. After Bob lost his job of 23 years as a civil engineer consultant, he had a vision that he would find a new profession involving, birds, kids, nature, photography, and the environment. Bob and his business partner, Debbie Shewfelt, have turned the Torrance store into an unofficial school for bird information, bird watching, wildlife appreciating, and preservation.
On Saturday, May 6, 2017, the Peninsula Seniors will sponsor Coffee & Cars at the Peninsula Shopping Center (off Silver Spur Road and Hawthorne Boulevard in Rolling Hills Estates). A group of car enthusiasts will bring their Hot Rod, Custom, Muscle Car, Sports Car, Antique, and other special interest vehicles, to the Peninsula Shopping Center parking lot where you can admire the cars, meet the owners and ask them questions.
