South Coast Botanic Garden October 2017 Family Events
Palos Verdes homes owners can begin their Fall celebrations with fun events at South Coast Botanic Garden. The Great Pumpkin Hunt starts October 1, and runs through November 30, 2017. This great event is included with general garden admission. Participants search for the missing pumpkin patch (as last years prized pumpkin was eaten by a sneaky squirrel and a ravenous rabbit). The birds of the garden (ravens, owls, hummingbirds and hawks) have teamed up to save this year’s patch. You will have to use your birdwatchers map and travel through the grounds of the South Coast Botanic Garden to find the hidden abodes of these feathered friends and collect the clues left in their bird houses. These clues will lead you to the pumpkin patch. The hunt will be family-friendly, imaginative, adventurous, and will require some hiking through the nature trails.
The Fall Plant Boutique will take place on Friday through Sunday, October 6, 7, & 8, 2017, during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
October 28, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the annual Model Train Show sponsored by the Los Angeles Division of the National Model Railroad Association will show remarkable moving miniatures by the region’s most acclaimed enthusiasts. There will also be “How To” clinics held throughout the day. You can bring your model locomotives if you would like assistance.
October 29, 2017, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., Music on the Meadow: The Mostly Mozart Music Festival is free with Garden admission. You can pack a picnic and enjoy a casual family friendly performance by the Flutesonic Orchestra, Los Angeles’ premier flute ensemble. Co-presented with the Center for Learning Unlimited (CLU), this concert will feature some of Mozart’s most exciting compositions selected for the enjoyment of children. You can also wear your Halloween costume and join the parade at 3:30 p.m. (in advance of the program).
