Palos Verdes Library District September 2022 Activities!

Palos Verdes homes owners are enjoying the Palos Verdes Library District’s new expanded activities. Below are just a few of the opportunities that will take place in September 2022.

 

It’s Library Card Sign-up Month

This is the time when libraries everywhere join together to remind communities of all the wonderful things that libraries have to offer. Make sure that you and your children have cards to join all the activities at your local PV library. The district has gone one step further by forgiving all previously existing overdue fines, rental fees, and fees for expired holds.

Community Art Show – Call for Entries

The Palos Verdes Library District invites local artists and students to submit artwork for the Annual Community Art Show held at the Peninsula Center Library to be held November 4 to December 31, 2022. Artwork in most media is eligible such as painting, photography, mixed media, and sculpture. To enter visit www.pvld.org/artinourlibrary and fill out an online application or pick up an entry form at any PVLD library. The deadline for submissions is September 25, 2022.

Art Exhibit Featuring the Redondo Beach Art Group

Opening Reception will take place on Friday, September 9, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Malaga Cove Library Art Gallery. The Redondo Beach Art Group artists will be exploring textures using a variety of materials and media.

New Storytime Added to the Schedule

Silly Saturday Storytime will be added at the Peninsula Center Library starting on September 3, 2022. This is a silly story time for kids of all ages and their parents and caregivers. Hosted by librarians and friendly puppets who will share fun stories, songs, and maybe even dancing. No registration is required.

Medicare Made Easy

Medicate insurance advisor, Linda Steward, will provide information on how to apply, when to apply, and how to make the best choices. This will take place on Saturday, September 10, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. No registration is required.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover

On Thursday, September 15, 2022, to Friday, September 16, 2022, at the Peninsula Center Library, you can drop off your stuffed animal for a fun sleepover at the library. Come back the next day to pick them up and see their overnight adventures. Make sure to bring a stuffed animal that you don’t need for bedtime. One animal per person. Drop off is on Thursday, September 15, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Peninsula Center Young Readers Desk. Pick up will take place on Friday, September 16, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Peninsula Center Young Readers Desk.

Painting Class with Artist Lynn Nguyen will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Join a painting class with Lynn and create your own picture to take home. All supplies will be provided. Contact the library for more information.

Art Exhibit: – Brush of Giftedness by Heidi Dong will be shown on Monday, September 19 to October 17, 2022,  at the Peninsula Center Library Foyer Exhibit Area. Heidi Dong, a young woman with autism, has brushed her giftedness into 18 interpretations of famous artwork. Fifteen of her illustrations represent former artists including Chagall, Cassatt, Matisse, Homer, Rockwell, Van Gogh and Warhol. Heidi has been a serious student of visual art and dance for many years.

Lets Talk Music will be meeting on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in the Peninsula Center Meeting Room.

Peninsula Library Book Club
The Peninsula Library Book Club meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 11:00 a.m. in the Purcell Meeting Room. This month on August 2, 2022, they will be discussing Page Against the Machine. All are welcome to join.
Malaga Cove Library Book Club

The Malaga Cove Library Book Club meets on the first Saturday of the month at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome to join. Each month they will read and discuss a single novel. On September 3, 2022, they will be discussing The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles.

Miraleste Virtual Book Club

The Miraleste Virtual Book Club is on the second Saturday of every month. (August 13, 2022) Each month read a different book! For more information and registration click here. Below is the reading list for the year.

  • October 8, 2022: The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
