Palos Verdes residents who have children entering Transitional Kindergarten or Kindergarten in the Fall of 2023 should register for the Parent Information Night virtual webinar for Kindergarten & Transitional Kindergarten aged children. The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District recommends that parents view the webinar even if they have had other children go through the system because the program has changed.
California Law regarding the age requirement for Kindergarten enrollment was changed. The law now requires a child be five years old on or before September 1, 2023, to be eligible for Kindergarten. To enroll in Transitional Kindergarten (which is a separate program), children who will be turning 5 years of age on/or between September 2. 2023, and April 2, 2024, are automatically placed in Transitional Kindergarten at the time of enrollment and will not need Transitional Kindergarten screening.
Parents should register in advance to attend the virtual webinar for Parent Information Night which will be held on January 19, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. At this webinar they will be discussing the registration process, Kindergarten & TK readiness, Kindergarten standards, Transitional Kindergarten, before and after school child care, programs, dates of school and meetings. Each elementary school will host a parent orientation meeting before school starts that will include tours, program information and the curriculum information.
