Palos Verdes Enjoys Live Shakespeare By The Sea 2023 Final Performances!

Palos Verdes residents have a wonderful opportunity to watch the closing performances of the Shakespeare By The Sea Festival at Point Fermin Park where you can relax and enjoy live outdoor entertainment. This is the 26th year of Shakespeare By The Sea performances and the closing ones will feature “Twelfth Night” and “Hamlet.

Point Fermin Park will be presenting “Twelfth Night” on Friday, August 4, 2023, and “Hamlet” on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. The park can be very chilly since it is right on the ocean.  Bench seating is available, or you can set up chairs or blankets on the side.  Point Fermin Park is located at 807 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.

Twelfth Night tells a story of love, gender roles and class as they collide in Shakespeare’s timeless tale of Viola who is separated from her twin brother, Sebastian, in a shipwreck. Viola washes up on the shore of Illyria, and in an astute survival plan, she decides to present herself as a page. Now known as Caesario, she is employed by Duke Orsino, who sends her to woo the lady Olivia. When Olivia falls in love with Caesario, Viola finds herself in the middle of a love triangle. Hilarious hi jinks ensue when Olivia’s uncle, Sir Toby, his mistress Maria, and friend Sir Andrew prank Olivia’s pompous Steward, Malvolio.

Hamlet will show a shattered young Hamlet returning to Elsinore to attend his father’s funeral and his mother’s marriage to his uncle. A harrowing encounter with his father’s ghost informs him that something is rotten in the state of Denmark and Hamlet is propelled down a perilous path of murder, madness and revenge. But when holding the mirror up to nature, who can he trust?
