Palos Verdes home owners can enjoy a moderate hike on the Ocean Trails Reserve this Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This hike will take you through Founders Park, down the switch backs on the Sunset Trail, along the beach, and then back up the Sunrise Trail back to Founders Park. Parking will be at the visitors’ lot at the end of Trump National Drive next to the golf course club house. Some of the highlights of the hike are the Founders Park plaque dedicated to the founders of Rancho Palos Verdes, and as you approach the Sunset trail, you will see a large plaque dedicated to the Ishibashi family and other Japanese farmers who farmed a good portion of the Peninsula. The Sunset Trails have some interesting geological features to observe, and the marine terraces can be easily seen from this vantage point. There is also an interesting riparian area associated with the engineering techniques used to restore/stabilize/re-vegetate the 1999 landslide area of the 18th hole.
