The Palos Verdes Library District is offering a variety of adventures for visitors of all ages in the month of May. Below are just a few of the fun activities:
De-Stress At The Annex will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This is a great time to take a break from studying and get away from homework to de-stress and decompress. This is for Grades 6th – 12th only where they can just relax and enjoy light snacks with others at the Annex.
Database Workshop will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. You will learn how to use PVLD databases to research products on Consumer Reports, access authoritative legal information and forms, and read online magazines and newspapers such as the Daily Breeze, Los Angeles Times and the Wall Street Journal — all of which can be done for free, at home, with your PVLD library card! Bring your own laptop or use one of our Chromebooks. Registration is required since space is limited.
Celebrating Our Similarities – Celebrating Asian & Pacific Islander Heritage will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. till 4:00 p.m. This is a great event to bring your family and neighbors and enjoy the art, books, clothing dance, food and music of this heritage. You do need to register for the event, please go to

Board Games for Adults takes place on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 2:00 p.m.to 4:00 p.m. in the Peninsula Center Library Purcell Room. Join your neighbors for a friendly game of chess, checkers, Scrabble and other board games! No reservations required, just drop in!
TechKnows – (drop in tech help at Malaga Cove) will take place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the Malaga Cove Library Community Room. Drop in and have the librarian assist with all your tech questions. From smartphones, tablets, and laptops, to PVLD eResources and eBooks – they are there to help!
One Shot: Dungeons and Dragons will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in the Peninsula Center Library Purcell Room. Dungeons? Dragons? Monsters? and everything in between. Can you and your party complete the quest laid before you by our dungeon master? Join for a one-shot Dungeons and Dragons campaign. Grades 6th – 12th only. Registration required. Space is limited.
Sustainable Calculations Artist Reception will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Peninsula Center Library Foyer. Artist Jennifer Edwards uses recycled and layered materials and sustainable approaches to create interactive art designed with multiple spaces to dive in to. Viewers are asked “what do you see and feel?” in this daring and abstract show full of dramatic energy and movement. Depth and textures engage the viewer in a sensory exchange.
Movies at the Library will take place on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This month will feature Life of Pi (2012). The movie is about a young man who survives a disaster at sea and is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor: a fearsome Bengal tiger.
Jane Austen Book Club – Mansfield Park will take place on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 4:00 p.m.to 5:00 p.m. in the Peninsula Center Library Purcell Room. Read Jane Austen’s most popular titles with the Club each month and join in the discussion. All leading up to the 250th celebration. This month they are reading “Mansfield Park”: Fanny Price, a poor rural girl, is sent to live at Mansfield Park with her rich and privileged relations.
Malaga Cove Library Book Sale will take place on Friday & Saturday, May 23 & 24, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Community Voices an AAPI Film Festival will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 1:00 p.m.to 3:00 p.m. in the Community Room, where they will be showcasing a groundbreaking film festival dedicated to a curated collection of short films directed by senior and amateur Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) filmmakers.
