Palos Verdes homeowners have great presentations in the February 2026 Peninsula Seniors Bohannon Lectures Series. These Lectures take place at Scriba Family Center located at 602 Deep Valley Drive, Rolling Hills Estates, with in-person lectures beginning at 10:30 a.m. on the following Wednesdays:
February 4, 2026 – “Model Railroading Saved My Life” will be presented by Ron Varnell, a model railroad devotee, who will explain how railroading is not just for kids or for under the holiday tree. Its a life activity.
February 11, 2026 – “Neoclassical and Romantic Art” will be presented by members Ann and Lee Strong who will discuss the art periods from about 1750 to 1850. They will explore art that emerged as a reaction against the frivolously decorative Rococo style and the romanticism of the Age of Enlightenment and the French revolution.
February 18, 2026 – “The Four Gentlemen: Flowers, Seasons, and the Spirit of Chinese Painting” will be presented by Sherry Shih, a Chinese calligrapher and ink painter, who will discuss the symbolism in Chinese art across the dynasties. The session combines art appreciation, cultural storytelling, and audience reflection, with samples of her artwork and prints that replicate masterworks across Chinese painting history.
February 25, 2026 – “Two Steel Survivors” will be presented by Jim Shneer a local historian, who tells the story of two warships, the Russian Aurora and the Japanese Mikasa, that fought on opposing sides in one of the greatest sea battles in history.
On Saturday, February 7, 2026, Coffee & Cars will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on the top parking deck of the Promenade Mall. On the first Saturday of every month, a group of car enthusiasts bring their Hot Rod, Custom, Muscle Car, Sports Car, Antique, and other special interest vehicles to this location where you can admire the cars, meet the owners and ask them questions. To reach the top parking deck, enter from Indian Peak Road at the Peninsula Shopping Center off Silver Spur Road and Hawthorne Boulevard in Rolling Hills Estates.
