365 Things To Do In Palos Verdes – Meet the Grunion

Each year the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium presents special evenings to introduce Palos Verdes homes owners and the public to the unique grunion fish. These little silvery fish come up to the beach to spawn.  At the museum you will learn about the interesting mating rituals and growth of this little fish.

On July 16th, the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium gift shop will open at 8:00 p.m., and the Grunion Program itself will start at 9:00 p.m. in the John M. Olguin Auditorium.  They suggest you bring a blanket and flashlight to enjoy the evening.  Always dress warmly because the evening could be damp and chilly at the beach. The forecast for the grunion run is between 10:30p.m. to 12:30a.m.  July is an open season, when grunion may be taken by hand only, but if you are over 16 you must display a valid California fishing license.

The cost of the program is $5 for adults, $1 children/seniors/students with I.D.  Reservations are not necessary and tickets are sold at the Aquarium (cash only).  The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium is located at 3720 Stephen M. White Drive, San Pedro.  For more information contact (310) 548-7562.
