Palos Verdes Land Conservancy Calendar for December

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy offers a diverse selection of activities for Palos Verdes homes owners to enjoy.  Besides nature walks with naturalist, they offer bird walks, nocturnal full moon walk and many volunteer opportunities.  Here are just a few of the opportunities we have in December to join in the fun.

Special Events:  The guided nature walk by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy to Rotunda/Ocean Trails East Reserve, will take place on Saturday, December 14, 2013, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  You will walk along the east bluff trail leading to the site of a former WWII bunker and explore the military history of the Peninsula. This is a moderate walk and you can park in the public lot at the end of La Rotunda Drive.

Monthly Activities: George F Canyon First Saturday Bird Walk will be taking place on December 7, 2013, at 8:30 a.m.  This is considered a slow easy walk so that the birds are not startled.  Binoculars are provided if needed.  Also later in the day at 3:00 p.m., the First Saturday Walk takes place at the canyon with a descriptive walk by a naturalist.  There is a $5 suggest donation for this walk.  George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates.

On December 14, 2013, the Ranger Guided Family Walk with the Winter Changes theme will take place at the White Point Nature  Preserve from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.  This is a free family hike guided by LA City Rangers through the beautiful 102 acre White Point Nature Preserve.  The preserve is located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.

Explore nocturnal sights with an expert Naturalist under a full moon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve Sunday, December 15, 2013.  Call (310) 547-0862 for reservations and time.  Children must be 9 years of age, and there is a charge of $10 per person.

Birding with Wild Birds Unlimited will take place at the White Point Nature Preserve on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at 8:30 a.m.  Binoculars will be provided.  This is an easy walk and is free.  Parking is at the Preserve located at 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro.

Volunteer Opportunities:  On December 7, 2013, starting at 9:00 – 12:00 p.m., assist in planting and watering native shrubs at the Agua Amarga Reserve to help sustain the habitat.

On December 14, 2013, the Conservancy is having a Volunteer Workday at the Portuguese Bend Reserve from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.  They really need your help planting habitat for the local wildlife.
