Kids & Parents Sail Aboard The Tall Ships Near Palos Verdes

The tall ships are back again offering Palos Verdes homes owners a fun adventure for both you and your children to enjoy right here in our area. This three hour trip offered by the Los Angeles Maritime Institute, offers a hands on experience with both kids and parents working the ropes to raise the sails, and even getting to climb up to the top of the ship to get a birds eye view.  These adventures will take place on January 3, 7 & 11, 2014, with two daily sails, 10:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m., and 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The two brigantines used in the Los Angeles Maritime Institute’s programs are the Irving Johnson and Exy Johnson which were launched in 2002. They are based on 1930’s designs and measure 90 feet by 21 feet. The Los Angeles Marine Institute’s signature program is the Top Sail Youth Program, a nonprofit organization that serves at risk youth by providing low cost trips on their ships.  The program aims to help empower youngsters to conquer their fears and insecurities on a boat and learn to work as a team. So far the program has engaged with more than 50,000 young people taking part.

Tickets for these special January sailings are $25 per person, and children must weigh 70 pounds. For reservations or more information contact (310) 833-6055 or email stephanie@lamitopsail.org .
